How has this kit influenced your classroom community? The students very quickly got to know each others' names and by spending time together, they were comfortable to be 'talking buddies', reading buddies and generally just together as a whole group.

The students could recognise that just about all of them have been in those kinds of situations. It helped them realise that they had to notice others' emotions to have empathy.

The story about Ava - completely relatabkle to mclass level - Year 1 and 2. All the activites - charging class bettery playlunch project with stickers etc pitched at exactly the right level

“What a fantastic kit of resources to set up the class culture right at the beginning of the year. The Playlunch Project was a favourite - being able to swap stickers with other children when they had played with them was very motivating. The magnetic counters with the Class Battery were great - every time someone was kind to another member of the class, or worked in a tuakana / teina , everytime someone said something positive about another member of the class, another counter was pushed up. We achieved our goal of fully charged battery many times - gaining free time for the whole class. The map was a good follow up to the story about Ava and cricket. A point one of the parents noticed before school when we were showing it, the teachers in the map do not have their batteries showing!!!”

“I found this kit was fantastic at fostering respectful relationships in my classroom. My students were all super engaged to begin with, but after a couple of weeks, they had all switched their stickers as a part of the play lunch project. This resulted in a lack of interest toward the end of the term, but it was definitely great to begin with!”
