How has this kit influenced your classroom community? As mentioned, the battery helped the children to work as a team towards a common goal, which resulted in them motivating each other, and cheering each other on.

How have the components of Respectul Relationships helped develop your student's understanding of what a respectful relationship is? Not particularly, I would've used the kit the same way prior to covid.

How relevant has this kit been with maintaining/establishing/reestablishing classroom relationships during Covid? The main thing my students got out of this kit is that they're a whanau, and work together to make the classroom a happy place to be. We worked on turning our negatives into a positive, and uplifting people when they're sad.

“This kit was a great way to introduce respectful relationships. It helped build discussions on the various aspects of relationships and the activities were useful in developing these further.”

“This kit was tricky to use as I found it difficult to use the different components in a cohesive way. The 'recharge' idea was good but the colours used on the battery didn't align with a previously taught concept around "red and green thinking."The play lunch idea was initially exciting for the children but they quickly lost interest and no-one finished collecting their stickers.”

How has this kit influenced your classroom community? The playlunch project encouraged children who wouldn't usually venture outside of their circles to play with others. On the flip side of that, children who perhaps have been on the outer were included and connections were made where they may not have been

Using the battery as a way to check in with feelings in the morning helped me as a teacher respond to the children who identified they needed a little more tlc each day.

Initially I had thought the story would help with this discussion but for some reason my class didn't really connect to the story. The playlunch project had the most impact on the relationships and interactions of students.

“I think this would be a great resource had it not been too high for my class. I have year 0/1's and much of the activities were too hard for them to understand. The play lunch project was more stress than helpful too. We have had a huge influx of new children arrive and leave this term so that may have had an impact on the effectiveness along with many events that we had to be flexible around, which may of had an impact on the kit. For our kids, I think this would work best for year 2+”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? The playlunch project really helped them to learn about members of the class they avoided before. I loved seeing how keen they were to join up with a new buddy and discuss what they could do together in the playground to suit them both.

The playground part where they matched a card and did the coding showed an increased understanding of those who are sometimes left out in class and in the playground. They were open to being empathetic and including others more.
