The kit has helped reinforce to the students what a respectful relationship entails - to be respected you need to show respect too. Question cards made them think about themselves in that situation and others might feel - we looked at ways we could help

“The kit provided a perfect way to develop caring and positive behaviours in our new entrance classrooms and especially in the playground. The tamariki share equipment nicely and support each other during the day. They ask how a peer is feeling and are able to come up with positive ways to help and support their peers.”

How have the components of Respectul Relationships helped develop your student's understanding of what a respectful relationship is? It's been difficult to keep the momentum with children and staff being off sick. However, it's helped those children who are anxious.

How relevant has this kit been with maintaining/establishing/reestablishing classroom relationships during Covid? Yes - children are now a little more open to other students rather than sticking with the same person.

“We are still working with the kit which has some fabulous resources. We have 3 batteries at the front of our Studio. The students work hard to fill their batteries. We are amazed by this as there is no reward other than filling the batteries. It is great to see students recognising when they need to recharge and going to sit on the recharge station mat. We will keep this going next year.”

How relevant has this kit been with maintaining/establishing/reestablishing classroom relationships during Covid? Because of the late arrival of the kit we are still working with it but it is helping to develop students understandings of good relationships.

“The Class Battery and Playlunch Project has been hugely successful for my tamariki. They have loved charging up the battery each day and it has supported the children to be more respectful and conscious of their peers in academic and social settings. Most children managed to fill up their booklets by playing with everyone in the classroom. The Playlunch Project helped to foster a wide range of new friendships that have continued to be maintained throughout the remainder of the year. Many parents commented on how impressed they were with their children building and maintaining new relationships.”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? We as a class started to find it helped but didn't notice as much as in Term as we didn't get the kit until part way through term 1 so hopefully this will definitely see a better change in the behaviours within the children in Term 2.

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? The battery was a very visual way for students to see how the class was feeling and every time someone moved a token up they would verbalise who had been kind to them and why they were moving the token up.

How has this kit influenced your classroom community? Students really enjoyed the battery and it was really celebrated when we filled up the class battery. It helped some students to talk about their feelings if something had happened for them in the playgound.

How have the components of Respectul Relationships helped develop your student's understanding of what a respectful relationship is? It was good for us as we were still teaching in the classroom. Some students were also able to use it to discuss how Covid had effected them and how they were feeling.

How has this kit influenced your classroom community? It has strengthened children's friendships and knowing who are great to play with and who is always willing to let them join in on activities.

How have the components of Respectul Relationships helped develop your student's understanding of what a respectful relationship is? I think this kit would be great at the start of the school year however it's worked for us in term 2 at reinforcing friendships and knowing who children can play with when there friends aren't there.
