We particularly enjoyed the sticker book which encouraged new friendships. This was also great for the new students in our class. It has continued encouraging wider friendship groups. “My children really enjoyed the Playground Project task. They really worked hard to collect everyone's stickers and made sure that they spent the whole playtime of lunchtime with the person they wanted to collect a sticker from. They learned lots about each other which lead nicely to the 'Cricket Story.' My Year 2-3s also enjoyed the 'Cricket Story' about inclusion. I could hear conversations in playground over hockey. "I didn't know you liked hockey and now lots of different children ask others to join in, just in case they would like to.”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? It did initially but kids returned to their friendships from before the learning. We will continue this in term 2 so I will see if it has more of a lasting impact then.

“I only started using the kit mid term2 as I was off on ACC leave until then. The relieving teacher could have used the resources as they were so well put together and easy to follow but I wanted to be the one to deliver such an important part of our curriculum. The kids loved the Playlunch project and it gave us a legitimate and genuine way to deliver our school values programme incorporating respect, inclusion, caring and honesty. We also tied the feelings and emotions with our swimming programme and building resilience and the students loved discussing ways they could charge their own emotional battery. They also loved the resources of the stickers and magnets so they could monitor their own performance and that of others, looking at ways to recharge someone's battery if they were feeling low. An awesome kit. Thank you.”

“This is an excellent Kit for building relationships. I would recommend it for Term 1 especially. There are a lot of interactive activities the students can try. For my class of year 3/4 the stickers and booklet used for 'playtime conversations' was the most popular. A close second was the energising button mat and battery with magnetic stickers. The talking cards helped with starting conversations as they were good ideas of open ended questions. I also liked the cards to send home so that whanau could also be involved with the Kit and its concepts.”
