How has this kit influenced your classroom community? We do this as a Junior Syndicate. So for example if a reliever comes into our class they know from class to class in the Juniors what we're doing.

How have the components of Respectul Relationships helped develop your student's understanding of what a respectful relationship is? To be honest, I don't think it makes a difference as we're always working on relationships and team building. I think in our school we've been impacted by Covid in different ways, but in terms of our social relationships, there hasn't been major issues.

How relevant has this kit been with maintaining/establishing/reestablishing classroom relationships during Covid? Earning a token for our battery and what that represents. Even though I may have caught one or two children or a group showing desired behaviours, it's a team effort.

“I found going through the kit had me create a lesson plan that I could follow much easier. The resources are great but I didn't get time to implement them all.”

How has this kit influenced your classroom community? There is more kindness in my studio. Students are praising each other, helping and supporting others without the ask of the teacher.

How have the components of Respectul Relationships helped develop your student's understanding of what a respectful relationship is? Very helpful. We noticed this year that many students have not been able to develop friendships and relationships with each other. They did not have a great understanding on how to socialise, this kit has been great help.

How have the components of Respectul Relationships helped develop your student's understanding of what a respectful relationship is? Very relevant as students were away for periods of time so some of them needed support resettling in. I also had new entrants start during this time.

“The kit was awesome at getting students to think about how they can build respectful relationships. The friendship booklets were a great resource. The kids loved collecting the stickers to show who they had played with and it was a great way to challenge the kids to start playing with different people. The story and the waiata were good. The children really enjoyed the charging station and being able to move the counters to help charge the classroom battery.”

There has been an increase in the number of relationships the children have formed within our classroom and they are now happy to play with a range of their peers during break times

“This was my first experience with a school kit, and it completely blew my expectations out of the water! I loved how it came with accompanying materials and linked together multiple curriculum areas. Our akonga loved the booklets and battery - they insisted on completing these any time they came back from a break. Overall I found the kit to include a tonne of useful material. The rest of my team tried to steal it and have now signed themselves up for the box next term!”

“Tied in nicely with what we had done with Life education. The children understood the battery charge element and mixing with everyone. It also tied in nicely with the Whare Tapawha activities we had already started. I think my class needed more explicit social skill lessons; reading body language, listening to each other, understanding personal space, how to play to the rules.”
