How has this kit influenced your classroom community? The children really enjoyed the challenge of 'playing with different people' it has exposed them to friendships that they perhaps hadn't considered and made our class more of a unit.

As we try to get back to 'normal' practices this has been really relevant, students have gone from spending A LOT of time with their siblings or parents and adjusting to multiple people in one space has been tricky.

We have learned that even though we are all different and enjoy doing different activities we also have something in common that maybe we hadn't thought about, talking with different people has uncovered connections that we never considered.

How relevant has this kit been with maintaining/establishing/reestablishing classroom relationships during Covid? learning to be assertive, not passive or aggressive. Learning to read others clues. Learning to think how someone else may be feeling.
Some great ideas in the kit. My class particularly loved the playlunch project and the class battery. I find these kits a little difficult to follow. Maybe if you numbered the activities then they would flow better.

I always pride myself in having a class that works really together and the beginning of this year was a struggle with students coming from multiple classes (and 2 different year levels) I really wanted them to explore different friendships and be open to working and playing with different people. This kit did this so thank you.

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? The play lunch project gave opportunities for students to socialise with peers that they would not usually interact with. Aiming to full our class battery each day was something positive to focus on. The recharge mat was popular!

How has this kit influenced your classroom community? The recharge battery was quite cool and popular and they children enjoyed booklets and stickers that promoted children to play with different people. Children talked about this at home as a couple of parents commented on it.
How have the components of Respectul Relationships helped develop your student's understanding of what a respectful relationship is? Children got used to being okay with playing with others and not just their usual friend, handy with lots of absences. New friendships were formed.

With a little bit of tweaking to adapt it to the student needs it was great! I did find it SUPER hard not to have a 1 page document that scaffolds the planning out.

It really emphasised the importance of taking the time and opportunity to get to know people. It was particularly impressive to see children taking the time to talk and play with children they dont normally do this with outside of the classroom.
Thank you this was a great resource particularly the playground project task. An effective way for children getting to know each other and ensured ever had a friend and a happy playtime. Thank you!

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? For the most part this was great and my class wanted to invite some other classes to do the same so that they can become good friends too. I have a couple of students who have had 70% of the first term at home, I am hoping they will pick things up easily

How has this kit influenced your classroom community? My class took this and ran, they want to continue it next term so we will make our own adaptations to continue it.

Covid had a huge impact in my class, there were days when there were only 7 students in our room. Many children were missing their friends so we had opportunities to get to know others and form some new friendships.

I was a little disappointed, I found the lesson flow hard to follow and the children found the activities ok but not exciting.

They all wanted the stickers for their books and we talked about 'creating a rainbow' on their sticker charts of all the different children

This kit, while not used to its full potential was actually perfect for my classroom. We began in term 1 and then the full impacts of Covid hit. I had as many as a third to half my class away. However the lunchbox project was a life-saver for so many children who found themselves at school alone while their friends were sick at home. The lunchbox project providing an amazing platform for children to gain an opportunity to interact with the peers they had not yet connected with. Another highlight of the kit is the mat with its accompanying story about Tim. My class were enthralled by this story and loved locating the children on the mat whose batteries were at varying levels. The problem solving and discussion that resulted was really heart warming for me as a teacher.

Covid has been tough for my students, at times some children feel quite isolated having to learn online. I've noticed since teaching and using this kits resources, my tamariki have been showing more resilience and kindness to one another.

The children are now applying what they have learnt in the playground during breaktimes. They are realizing the ongoing value of connecting with friends and sensing when others need encouragement /emotional support.
This is a fantastic kit full of really great useful ideas and activities! Some are slightly better suited for middle school and above but managed to find plenty to relate to my new entrants to year 2’s. They have particularly loved the Playground project, which has provided great conversations around meaningful play! The unit has worked in really well with our work around te whare tapa wha. Teaching specific skills and language around relationships and emotions is so important for our new learners to school.
