Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I think being open to what our students are now facing online, &; knowing how much their online persona is apart if them, my own comfort level doesn't really come into it. Personally I believe these things should be discussed with by parents, but it's not

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I think that I was really aware of what students get up to online these days. One thing that surprised me was how many students actually had parent controls on their devices, such as family link.

“It was really interesting finding out about what students do online in their own time. Getting them to share their experiences and then really think about what they should and shouldn't be doing online was eye opening for some of them.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I assumed that online safety had been discussed in more depth that it had in previous years and I realised that many parents didn’t discuss these issues with their kids at home.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The amount of online freedom they had at home. Not as many guidelines for appropriate behaviour set down by parents as I expected.

“A great resource kit, clearly set out instructions and outcomes. The activities were suitable to prompt thinking and collaboration within the class to solve problems and share ideas. Kids loved the voting system! Information was relevant to the topic and year level. Children had a few ‘a-ha’ moments when they compared their online behaviours to their offline behaviours - hopefully prompting changes for some of them. Thanks so much!!!”

The range of responses was interesting, with some kids having very very tight internet rules at home and some (apparently) have no rules at home at all! I was surprised by this, but not surprised at the same time. I could almost see a correlation between

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I have been teaching a while, and have taught pubertal change, internet safety, dangers of pornography, and similar many times, so the content didn't bother me at all.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I teach year 9, and I was surprised how much I had to unpack some of the vocabulary on many cards. I think I assume that the older students understand many of the words we use, when really they are not overly sure!!

“This kit had some very good resources, which were made with high quality material. There were some interesting ideas and approaches to discussing some very relevant topics. One or two activities were a little hard to follow, and I don't think I got the most out of them... but that may have been my fault more than the kit!”

The students were a lot more empathic to each other and very supportive in many of the conversations that arose. I think students were able to see connection and similarity that they may not have seen before.

“Such a great unit! Students were engaged from the beginning and lots of discussion came from using it. It will definitely be a resource that I will be able use again with other classes next year.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Students showed more awareness and understanding overall about online issues that I was anticipating. I also thought they would want to talk more about these issues but they weren't very forthcoming about personal experiences.

The children were very mature in their dealings and surprised me. I kept a few cards out due to their nature and the age/stage/level of my students.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I was surprised by the way they voted with the marbles. I thought (innocently) that I would have to explain the scenarios more to them.

“I really enjoyed using this kit with my year 5/6 class in an ILE of 85. The marble voting was very interesting and lead me to dismiss some common misconceptions I had about how they would vote.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I knew that my class were not establishing or respecting boundaries online, but did not knot the full extent. It does worry me about how widespread inappropriate behaviour is for the wellbeing of youth.

“Fantastic, supportive resource. Really user friendly. The scenarios on the 'That's out of line cards' were really diverse, allowing me to make many connections with my students and online situations they have faced.”
