In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? They were a lot more reflective than I thought they would be. (The Students). My perception changed slightly of the issues.

“This kit was very thought provoking, and opened a lot of students minds. We discussed thing we haven't talked about in our class before.”

“Great resource - Kids were able to connect with big ideas quite easily. Definitely upskilled me with things I wasn't aware of”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? They didn't change, but the content has been talked about a lot this term and the issues dealt with in the tasks are ones we have had to work through with students this year. Very relevant for our children.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit Team teaching has been really good in helping to deal with more difficult conversations. The mix of students we have varies quite a lot too, so some of the more full on content isnt relevant to our less worldly students at this point.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? None

“The activities are great. We are using this kit with all the year 6 students in our team and are only part way through it at the moment. I particularly like the session about empathy and getting kids to understand the impact that actions have on others. I have found the teacher guide a bit hard to follow but we worked out ways to use the tasks in a way that suited us.”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How much time they are spending unsupervised online.

“My students were really engaged in the activities in this kit. It opened up a lot of discussions about things that had happened to them or that they were worried about. I used the kit only with the year 5 students in my class and it was definitely something that has been useful in supporting their learning in this area. We really liked the idea of keeping it in line rather than trying to maintain two separate identities.”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? It also highlighted how so may of the students I teach are not monitored closely enough by their parents.

“This was a great way to open the conversation in a fun way with the kids about being more aware of themselves and the choices they make interacting with online media. I found it particularly helpful in highlighting the different emotions people experience and how often actions are taken without thinking about the consequences. My class enjoyed the majority of the activities and the variety of tasks. It was also pitched perfectly for the intermediate age group.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Luckily, my students are quite open - so a lot of my views on the issues were quite on point. I think that kids at my age have different things to deal with (i.e more mature things) and have benefited a great deal from this school kit.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit We have recently finished puberty and this meant we were all pretty comfortable talking about more mature things in our classroom. Students were very open to sharing.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I think how really open they were in the conversations based on the marble questions. Many opened up and shared some experiences with the class

“My students loved this unit. It was great to be able to communicate with them about the online world becoming part of who they are now. I managed to tie in and watch (with parent permission) The Social Dilemma.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Initially many thought they needed to protect themselves from strangers however as time went on, they realised relatives and peers could also be the source of online issues.
