“We thoroughly enjoyed this kit and all of the authentic learning opportunities it provided for us. We were so grateful for the gloves and to be able to make a positive impact in our own school environment. We could not believe the amount of rubbish we picked up and the children were so proud that it wouldn't make its way into our oceans. Thank-you School Kit for another wonderful and thoughtful kit! We are so LUCKY to have had the chance to participate.”
“We used the sea cleaners kit as a school clean up. We researched our local waterways and what aquatic life used our creeks, inlets and oceans. We linked it to our term unit about 'our future selves' and being Kaitiaki of our environment. The real eye opener for the Tamariki was the amount of lunch packets!!! We are taking this a step further next year with a real sustainability focus in 2020. We will use the Sea cleaners concept again! Thank you for the awesome kit. Sorry no photos : (”
“Hi there,
Just a review on the Sea Cleaners kit. We really appreciated the opportunity to partake in this project as we live near the ocean and it is such an important part of our community. We were all surprised at the amount of rubbish that we collected and particularly how much of it was really not needed in the first place ie take away coffee cup.
The kit was a great resource and we are very appreciative of the School Kit crew and in particular the patrons who put their resources into providing this kit.
Thank you,
Mr Hefferen and Room 7”
“I give my sincerest apologies to all teachers who might have wanted this kit and to Schoolkit for NOT being able to instigate the learning around this wonderful kit. I am embarrassed to admit this, with it arriving late, and some unforseen events, we made NO headway with it. Once again, my apologies to all. Loved seeing the pics etc from other classes.”
“This kit was used by Y3&;4 Sea Cleaners. It allowed us to dive deeper into our topic on the Maui Dolphin and explore the threats and hazards that the Maui Dolphin face as well as how we can have a positive impact on the sea and species in it. The children were so inspired to learn that we can simply help save the ocean and its creatures by picking up rubbish and recycling etc that it became a daily occurrence for the students to pick up rubbish! The students LOVED this kit and the activities because it showed them visually the impact rubbish has on ocean life.”
“We loved the Sea Cleaners kit! Year 6, 7 and 8 students at Aka Aka School did a practice clean up at school before heading down to the Elbow, a popular reserve near to our school, beside the Waikato River. We were amazed at how much rubbish we found. We shared our experience through our school facebook page, and this got shared to our wider community - we received so many positive comments that we've decided to do a clean up once a term.
We found out about what the different recycling numbers meant and were disappointed to see most of our plastic rubbish was not able to be recycled.
Our reward was a swim in the river!”
