“This kit came at the perfect time for us! We had a project to develop our Lizard Garden area which was full of rubbish. this rubbish goes in our local storm drains and into our marine reserve. The children were highly engaged and loved wearing the gloves! Looking after Papatuanuku is something my class is very invovled with and loved this kit.”

How has this kit impacted on your class culture? Kids are careful to ensure any rubbish in the class is disposed of in the right way and to make sure lunch rubbish is minimised and cleaned up without needing to be asked. Class is more conscious of rubbish.

“Loved this kit- It fitted firmly with our Enviro School kaupapa. We have a class turtle so looking at the rubbish in the sea and how it related to turtles really impacted the class. Students were picking up rubbish during their play times- voluntarily. They came back to report they they were sea cleaners. Relating the clean sea idea to our local stream and area was very effective. We will continue this until the end of term with a culmination on Enviro Day- hopefully cleaning up the neighbourhood around our stream.”

“Fantastic kit that linked to our te Moana theme for the term. The posters were awesome and the children LOVED having their own gloves to collect rubbish. We had a great discussion about what we found and why and how we needed to take action to stop pollution in the sea. They were able to make the connection to what they found around the school and nearby streets, how it got there and how it would make its way to the beach.”
