What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have given the children their "Kaitiaki License' after posting about their clean up via Seesaw. It would be great if more challenges to acquire their upgraded license can be given so as to consistently empower them to be responsible kaitiaki.

In what ways did this kit impact student attitude towards environmentalism? I have received parents feedback on how the tamariki have been very particular with using reusable containers, drink bottles and utensils. The gloves are also of a good reminder of this very special learning that they had.

“We have covered the concept of KAITIAKITANGA in terms 3 and 4 and the Sea Cleaners kit was perfect to be used for our end task. We have enriched our learners' knowledge on the concept and focused on being the Eyes of Tangaroa (god of water). We started by inviting our cool friends from Water Care to explain how our actions have a great impact to the sea. We then visited Kelly Carlton for them to realise the taonga that the sea has blessed us with. Then the Sea Cleaners Kit did its job to empower our kaitiaki/ Eyes of Tangaroa as they spend their weekends cleaning up the local bodies of water that they visit. Since they know that everything ends up in the ocean if they are not disposed properly, our school grounds are filled with little kaitiaki pickung up rubbish.”

How has this kit impacted on your class culture? The children are more aware of rubbish and items that are lying around and not in the rubbish. They are constantly asking "Is this recyclable?" Or "can we use this for art?"
In what ways did this kit impact student attitude towards environmentalism? Because the area we cleaned up was the local village where the majority of our students live they were really interested in what types of items we picked up when sorting them and were very keen to keep it rubbish free in the future.

“My year 2/3s struggled with getting into this kit. We were also time poor on being able to organise the clean up portion. Some of the activities and the resources were useful but probably not something I would use again at this level. Probably better suited for senior classes.”
