My children have loved this kit and and the learnng from it has been impactful. All of the components were useful. They loved the collaborative art piece, the turtle diary. We are keeping the gloves we used in our clean-u[p and will wash them to re-use next year. I can also track a turtle again from the website next year and re-use the texts.

My ākonga really enjoyed the Diary of a Turtle kit! They loved tracking our turtle, Davis, and writing diaries about what he might have gotten up to. They also loved the "updates" from the Sea Cleaners crew on Davis' adventures. We did a clean up of our school, but we talked about how if we stop the litter from leaving our school grounds, that prevents it from going to the river, and then to the ocean. They really engaged with this and found lots of trash that we could sort through and analyze! We even were able to put out a message to our school about what we found and where, and ask everyone to make sure their rubbish from their lunchboxes got put away responsibly.

This resource was the perfect resource to use to introduce and explain the concept of Kaitiakitanga to my Year 1 class. It had all the necessary equipment (reusable gloves, rubbish bags etc.) to teach them about turtles, their habitats and how we can look after them, as well as other curriculum areas we could tie it all to. The children absolutely loved it!

The children really enjoyed the novelty of the gloves when we did our litter clean up. The poster about how much litter we picked up was difficult to use in practice as it was hard to sort through all the rubbish, complete a count, and record it onto that poster outside. Possibly several smaller posters for each bag/group would be better.
