Was there a particular component that struck a chord with your class? No. I got overwhelmed with how the planning/units are set out. I can see how this works for others, but felt like I then had to go and put the planning into my planning in a more step by step way. Then I felt like I was planning, from planning, and this was not a good use of my time.

“I started the kit really well, and did the first lesson around values and why we build relationships with others. I looked into the letter and started to think about how I could set this up in my class. But then, I saw the token activity and thought about this taking a lot of time each morning. I then got a bit overwhelmed and didn't moved past this in the kit. I felt that reading the planning, it moved away from resilience, and didn't quite meet the focus of why I had gotten the kit.”

“The kids and whanau loved the letters and circle of influence sheets. Overall a good unit. I just had to do some tweaks to keep engagement going. Would like to see them use the check in boxes more.”

“Great resources. Students loved the reverse selfie video. As a first year teacher I would have thoroughly appreciated a step by step lesson plan but understand that we have to make it our own anyway. As the term got busier and busier, I found less and less time to plan for this unit. If it was stepped out in a lesson 1-10 format I could have simply picked it up and run with it a bit easier.”

“Self esteem 24 has been a good unit to start the year with a new class. I used different parts of the unit, depending on what I thought the kids would benefit from. They linked all of their feelings particularly to Zones of Regulation. A really nice blend.”
