“We were successful in some parts of this kit. The kids really enjoyed the check in box and the ability to talk about their feelings and how they are helping themselves mentally.”

“The Resolving Conflict Cards were really helpful with the scenarios and the helpful tips to resolve conflict. It made the lesson enjoyable and gave the students good insight on how to handle conflict. The What you Need to feel better slips were also really helpful and a holistic approach to address the needs of the students.”

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Checking in with how they are feeling each day

“I found this kit quite complicated to get going with because of the amount of parent input needed at the beginning and the communication needed to explain the trust letters etc was a barrier in terms of having the time to put that together. It would have been great to have a parent letter explaining the whānau input supplied that we could just edit to suit our community. I would have prefered it if setting up the rise and shine wall and daily check ins and learning about the pro-social behaviour were first. We also felt that the questions for the stats inquiry were a bit too loaded for our community and we didn't feel comfortable asking them at year 5/6 level. With the busyness of the curriculum changes this year I ended up only doing the rise and shine wall and daily check ins -these were fantastic and I wish i'd set them up earlier in the year. The check list for the "feeling low" was so handy and sparked really helpful discussions. However some feedback I overheard from a child about the 'rise and shine' cards was "Do I have to read all this!?" so perhaps a bit too wordy for year 5/6?”

How has this the kit influenced the way in which students speak to each other? Yes - worked in well with our PB4L and just needed some minor tweaks to suit our school values.

“Lots of good learning included based around the parts of self esteem. Perhaps a little advanced for Year 4 - a few of the lessons were not applciable for this age group.”
