How has this the kit influenced the way in which students speak to each other? They have begun to recognise the impact their language has on one another and I have heard some very adult conversations when problems arise and are solved.

Which response stood out most? Not a specific response as such, but the engagement from our tamariki was excellent and I was really surprised by the engagement of their whānau as well.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Particularly around the influence of social media, I believe my leaners are looking at things that influence them in a new light.

“Kia ora, Our class really enjoyed engaging with the Self Esteem material and it tied in brilliantly with other mahi we have been doing this year. My ākonga really liked the daily check in and the rise and shine, they reported that it has changed how they think about each day, what they are doing, and who is influencing their own decision making. They were very happy that we engaged with this kit and I can see their learning carried over each day. Ngā mihi nui, Michael”

“I really enjoyed the conversations that came out of the kit, I didnt always use the resources as instrcuted/suggested but they were a great tool to have around the classroom. I even heard some of the students (mainly girls) talk about their experiences without me directing the cnversations.”

Was there a particular component that struck a chord with your class? No. I got overwhelmed with how the planning/units are set out. I can see how this works for others, but felt like I then had to go and put the planning into my planning in a more step by step way. Then I felt like I was planning, from planning, and this was not a good use of my time.

“I started the kit really well, and did the first lesson around values and why we build relationships with others. I looked into the letter and started to think about how I could set this up in my class. But then, I saw the token activity and thought about this taking a lot of time each morning. I then got a bit overwhelmed and didn't moved past this in the kit. I felt that reading the planning, it moved away from resilience, and didn't quite meet the focus of why I had gotten the kit.”

“Great resources. Students loved the reverse selfie video. As a first year teacher I would have thoroughly appreciated a step by step lesson plan but understand that we have to make it our own anyway. As the term got busier and busier, I found less and less time to plan for this unit. If it was stepped out in a lesson 1-10 format I could have simply picked it up and run with it a bit easier.”
