“The kit was good. It has the appropriate equipment and tools to engage the students in our gardening project. It was really good that it had a variety of roles that kids could choose from. Overall I would recommend this kit to anyone who is doing some sort of project in their own school or community.”
“The community guardians kit was so cool! There were lots of fabulous resources that helped me to monitor a class volunteer project. As part of this unit, my class teamed up with Te Arawa (local iwi) and undertook a volunteer monitoring programme to help to reduce the number of Catfish in our local waterways. It was great to bebi soored by school kit to get out and into the community- and even greater to help raise awareness within my class of an important environmental issue that was highly relevant to them. We even got on 7sharp! I'm looking forward to reusing some of the resources in the kit again next year. Thanks schoolkit!”
“A wonderful kit to help kids see that they can make a difference. Due to time constraints we had to tie our volunteering in with our sustainable market but this worked well as picking up rubbish fitted in well with our sustainability focus. We also as a class raised over $300 for a local food bank so tying the two together the kids were really proud of the difference they had made in their community.”
“Due to ill-health and transport issues, we had to change direction a bit with our 'volunteer' work. We have three things planned and have completed the first one which was making bookmarks for our New Entrant students. I quizzed the class as to what we could do to help our younger learners in the school and the majority vote was to make them bookmarks as reading is fun. The next 'mission' is to write letters of kindness to one of our teachers who is moving to a new school in the city next year. After this, we are going to invite Mr S and his class to a shared kai next week. We will post some more photos and reviews from this next week.
This kit is great because I wanted the ideas to come from the students as to how we could help or recognise others in our school or wider community. We have voted for two leaders to take charge with the shared kai and how best to present our kindness messages to Mr S. As a team, we have decided on a lot of the food we want to provide but the students know that they will need to talk to their parents/whanau as well.”

I didn't find the kit very suitable for our year 0&;1 learners. Too much written info/things to do for them we used the flag, vests and we have everyone a badge afterwards as a thank you reward.
I would not sign up for this again for juniors.
Details of what we did (linked to student led inquiry) a d photos on School Kit Squad FB page, link above.
Thanks”
“27 students from Room 1 &; 2 painted stones and wrote kindness messages on them. We took them to our local kindy, hid them outside and then started with the kindy kids after they found a stone each. The Scholl kids had so much fun doing this whole project and especially playing at kindy! Everyone was smiling!”
“We have had ups nd downs with our project. Students wanted to create a fitness path in our community close to the schools so that children and other community members could enjoy it as they walk past. Auckland Transport promised to get back to us about whether we could or not but we are still waiting for that... However, all is not lost. The students got together and asked the BOT if they could put it in our school as community the school is open to the community after school hours. ' Yes!' they said! and the SVA are preparing this to happen next Monday! Hooray! Thanks SVA headquarters. What a great initiative!”
“My kids just loved doing this, such a great way to finish off the year! We wanted to show appreciation for the people in our school and community who have helped us this year, so we used the kit to help us execute acts of kindness such as fun treasure hunts for our neighbouring classes, a suprise for our school secretaries, cleaners and grounds keeper and we wrote and delivered thank you letters to businesses around our town. Thank you school kit!”
