“At GTS we used the sva kit together with our passion projects. The theme was #actsofservice. Students chose certain areas of need in our community to serve. One of our groups decided to cook nachos and deliver it to some of the homeless people in the community. We had another group bake cookies for the local police station and one group volunteered to clean up the local beach. They loved it! Thank you schoolkit for the useful resources!”
“The Community Guardians’ Kit has been an awesome resource to support our topic ‘Change for Good’. My group were researching local charities who support people and animals in need, ie. Salvation Army, SPCA, Combined Christian Food Bank and Women’s Refuge. They promoted the needs for their chosen charity at home and at school and organised a collection of goods that we delivered to the charities. Thanks School Kit for providing this valuable resource for us to use.”
“This was a great unit that fitted in well with the discussuions we were having in class around the Christchurch Earthquake and Our Environment, the Ocean and plastics and litter and plastic we see every day around the streets of our inner city school. Thank you so much for this resource :)”
“Such a fabulous kit. The children have planned a fun fundraiser to help support a local animal rescue centre. They have been highly engaged in the process so far. It is wonderful to see them taking charge of their learning and being the driving force for this project.”
“On the 14th November our RI E-waste group held an e waste day in the schools old Biotechnology room. We collected a range of devices including: desktop computers, mobile phones, printers, tablets and laptops. The day was successful because of the hard work we did planning. Also, we had specific roles which we stuck to. We worked together effectively. We collected all the e-waste from the school as well as members of the local community. We each had a different role and worked well with each other. Some groups worked on recording details of the devices collected, others collected and sorted the devices. We arranged for the devices to be collected by Computer Recycling Ltd as they were able to dispose of the items in an eco-friendly manner. We helped to load all the items into their van to be taken for disposal. The SVA kit provided us with a excellent framework and inspiration to complete our project.”
“My students have loved the experience of having to plan, budget and writing emails. They have had to become cooks, helpers, advertisers, prompters and many other ‘jobs’. The money that they have raised will go towards helping children of the same age have a better Christmas this year compared to other years.”
“This project was awesome! It allowed the students to become engaged with issues in their community and become more aware members within it! Sorting through all the raised concepts we settled on a beach clean u as we live in the beautiful Hawkes Bay! We spent the day outdoors picking up rubbish to keep our country and it's oceans beautiful. Some of the plastic that was sourced on the beach clean up day was later used to create artistic bird feeders!
The resources were so handy and it allowed students to take leadership of different areas!
Thanks so much.”
