The kit inspired us to help tidy up our community carpark. We chose to do an 'Emu' to collect the rubbish that was left behind. We also got the students to sort the rubbish into recyclables and trash. Some students even decided t wash the graffiti off walls.

We wended up doing two seperate projects using this kit. The first one was inspired by an article in the paper that siad the food bank had run out of food. The children managed to deliver 70kg of food, and also some cash. The second project was a much bigger one, we organised an event day for the rest of our school. The SVA kit was Invaluable to us in helping us to plan and to refine our ideas. The kit helped the children to focus on all of the important areas, not just the obvious ones. Thanks School Kit. Another successful kit, and we'll be back next year to make our porject even bigger!!

The kit was a great tool to motivate students to play a part in the task of cleaning up the school grounds. It was decided that cleaning up would be done every Friday during the lunch break. Different parts of the grounds were targeted each week so that students could have some of their play time. Students were proud of their work and they were developing responsibility for litter at school.

We are only now planning and carrying out our SVA project. We had a particularly busy Term 4 and wanted our project to tie in with our Religious Education programme where were were looking at service towards others as part of our preparation for Christmas. As one of the children in the class has a sister with cancer and her family has been staying at Ronald Mc Donald House in Christchurch during the year, we have contacted the manager and will be working with him over the next three weeks to plan and carry out a service activity which will benefit those staying there. Thanks for the kit- a wonderful resource.

This really promoted kids to think about the other kind things we can do for people. We weren’t able to do things outside of school due to parent help and time of year reasons. But the kids wanted to do it for the teacher anyway! They thought of all the things they could do for the teachers knowing they have lots on at this time of year. They thought of many ideas and the timetable of the day. They really picked up on the message of doing nice things for others can make you feel happy! They have since been making sure they do little things for others without being asked just because it is the nice thing to do and they have realised it doesn’t always take much to be a volunteer!

We had the best SVA day! The kids and parent really bought into it and made it a success. See below the letter our 'story tellers' wrote for the news letter after our SVA day. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P9A2qcTrAAir7Tx8K0kbzgh0M1UDmTJuTRj6jlwR1gk/edit

Our class is absolutely loving this venture!!! We approached our local Kindy who wanted some quality sports lessons and art. So we split the roles into two separate groups who had to organise two separate events to meet the needs of the kindy. We have been practising with our youngest students at our school so that we can pitch the activities at the appropriate level. It suits our Year 5 class so well and our overall theme is Courage to be a Hero. It gives them a real opportunity to be mini heroes. My favourite of the School Kits we have ever done. So well organised and structured.

A pataka kai has recently opened in our community, so our students decided to make kawakawa and calendula balm that they could put in the pataka for anyone in the community who wanted it. We had trips to the bush and local maara to harvest kawakawa and calendula flowers and then groups of students spent time making the balm, packaging it and creating information leaflets. We have had loads of positive feedback as it it wonderful for skin irritations as a rongoa.
