Room 2 had the most amazing S.V.A day. We spent the day at the Metlifecare Edgewater, we connected with and entertained the residents. The kit allowed us the time to plan and then implement this wonderful event and both the old and young people involved had a great day. I would recomend this kit to any class. Please check out the links below to see some of our day. https://youtu.be/aeUbgequXjY https://youtu.be/fXsJaWNmOS8

We undertook a cleaning up of our school grounds, community streets and local waterway as part of our SVA. The project was done over a number of weeks and involved different aged students as they went out and about with the DP. We were fascinated at the amount and types of rubbish that people are discarding without thought and we are looking to set up a recycling station at school where the community can drop off things instead of dumping them. This idea also came from the school kit Facebook page which has helped us too.

We had a great time with our SVA kit focusing on cleaning up our own school community. The children led litter free days in each area of the school and then worked on getting a free mufti day for each team. Another whanau group painted all our drains with awesome pictures so we have done a focus on keeping the drains clear of litter too. Our Catholic school focus has been to be Kaitiaki and Stewards of God's amazing world. I think we will use this kit again next year! Our timeline was a bit out due to staff leave but we got there just over the time frame! Sorry about that School Kit!! I will post some photos once reports and data is all sorted. Thanks for another great kit!

Our learners really got involved by clearing up the creek and adjoining neighbors property. They organised themselves into groups with positions decided upon by the learners.

Our team did this as an in school project together. They did an outstanding job, with some pamphlets being made to go out with future newsletters around how much waste is in lunches etc. The kit was awesome. Next time maybe just a few more coloured vests would have been good.

We choose to do an 'emu' clean up of our carpark environment. This included sorting out recyclables and trash. This also included graffiti removal from the surrounding walls.

We have taken a while to get started on our SVA action as we were enjoying the Tuia 250 unit so much but here is a run-down of our on-going action. Our Year 3/4/ team walked around the local community and made notes on the issues we noticed that might need our help. We tried to unpack who they might impact and made some value judgements on which were the most important - as seen in our pyramid. An action was voted on and our opinions were supported by reasons. We worked hard to listen to the ideas of others and be adaptable. Going to the local cemetery to tidy up the graves and plant flowers was chosen. We have e-mailed the person in charge of the church and have a meeting on Tuesday. We will be allocating jobs this week and making a plan to present to the cemetery people by the end of this week. We will spend a morning doing the work and put lots of photos up to show how everything looks. We have loved looking at things with different eyes. We have also started making a plan about how to reduce lost property and litter at school. Those plans will move into 2020 and hopefully make our school an even nicer place to be. Thanks for making such an awesome unit of work that teaches us how to make a difference.

Room 10 identified the perfect project as tidying up our beautiful town. We worked together as a class to identify the most important areas to clean up and set about trying to keep our town clean and beautiful. The students loved having responsibilities and everyone got stuck in and did their part as community guardians.
