SVA Schools: Volunteer Kit 19 Reviews

4.7 Rating 332 Reviews
This kit was extremely useful. The links to videos, the flag, badges, cards and activities were all very stimulating and real to our students. They have been engaged since the start of our study and have worked together to come up with two SVA projects; one volunteering in our school and the second project - Helping our local kindergarten plan for a revamped, underused garden area. Thanks to School Kit for offering a user-friendly way for our students to explore this important community role. Kind regards Michelle White

My class had the opportunity to dig into a team-wide initiative to cleanup our neighbourhood. Although the event was on a single day, the planning and organising in our team meant that the students had a wonderful opportunity to discuss the value of helping out, planning for success and feeling positive about making a small but significant difference. We teamed up with a team class who had a focus on recycling and they used our scrap to track litter in a number of ways. The kids were positive, brave in the face of rubbish and got a lot out of giving back to the community.

Kia Ora School Kit Thanks again for another fabulous resource. Our classroom has been tending to the gardens around the school and working alongside younger members of our school community. Our focus has been on whānaungatanga and teaching our new entrants to be sustainable and protect our environment. We loved this kit!

We are busy working on this project at the moment. We, as a class, love the idea of serving the community and have used all the paper work given to us to initiate the programme. We have two leaders that are running with all the projects and we will send photos of evidence to help you see what we have achieved in the community. Thank you for this opportunity as it has helped the children to think of what they are passionate about and realise that there is a need outside of their domain. The people skills sheet has helped them find out what their skills are to help participate in the various roles.

Hi, I am sorry that we have not submitted anything yet for this - we love it and are thoroughly engaged. We are having our Project Days today and tomorrow. We are a Special Character school in Ashburton and we are the Year 8 class. Today we are engaged in a variety of activities as part of the kit, aligned very closely with using the See, Judge, Act model of Social Justice.

This was once again a fantastic project to be involved in. In 2018 we had used our SVA kit in combination with the Riparian Planting Project. Essentially this meant that our students all played a role in running a very successful planting day out on a local dairy farm. This year we continued that work as we see it as a long-term project. Early in the year we took a small group of students out to the farm to check on the success of last year's planting. This enabled us to keep the relationship with the farmer going. Then, right at the start of Term 4, we took out a larger group of students as we had in 2018. Being part of a project like this is a fantastic opportunity for our students. We are particularly proud that it has become an ongoing project. We get great support from a local plant nursery and the farmer has added more plantings as well as preparing the land for our visit this year. The students selected had all shown a strong interest during our sustainability unit and so this was a great way for them to take some action on an issue which is important to them. In conclusion, the SVA is a great concept and we're very happy to have been part of it once again.

A fabulous kit which was very helpful in getting us sorted into the different jobs and duties that were needed to run a successful project. The Kids LOVED all the badges and jackets and equipment. SO much more fun than me setting this all up myself.
