“The class are enjoying the volunteering focus. As Year 4, they have become excited about the idea of helping the SPCA and spreading kindness. They are organising a collection to donate - busy writing letters to the appropriate people to enable this to happen. Some are organising posters and advertising.”
“It was great for the kids to be able to identify a need and project for the community. They were able to see the community they were helping out and the effect they had on them. They made Kete Aroha or bags of love which they handed out to people in the community. Originally it was targeted for the homeless and less fortunate. However we ended up targeting the elderly and lonely. We also ended up singing for them as well.”
“This kit is amazing. I love how it is student centered and driven. The students at our school are in the process of organising a carols session at the elderly home, beautifying our school environment project and a give back to someone in need project. They could not stop at one. It is however taking time due to staffing issues. So sorry at this point there are no photos.”
“Instead of using this kit with a class we used it with our enviro group. It provided a wonderful opportunity to bring our enviro group together, giving them opportunities to become leaders. They had many wonderful ideas, from planting shrubs in our nature area at school to making a track at our Forest School. After lots of discussions about the needs around the school and students preferences the group decided to create a mud kitchen for everyone to enjoy at our school. The kit provided a great template of ideas and the group planned a very organised day. Unfortunately due to weather issues (weeks of rain!) their day didn’t all go to their schedule but they have made a great start. The students are aware of their roles and are continuing to work to get this project completely finished when the weather allows. It has been great to watch the students step up and gain confidence when communicating with their peers, teachers and members of our community.”
