What was the community impact of your volunteering project? The students demonstrated Manaakitanga by thinking of others. It has made them appreciate what they have and be respectful of the backstories of other people's lives. The groups we have targeted are yet to receive the projects yet but I would imagine ther

This kit has tied in beautifully with our school-wide inquiry into making a 'Change For Good'. The students spent the first three weeks immersed in learning around the SVA and how it came about. They brainstormed and researched ideas and then settled on their own projects. After having camp last week, they are now in full swing preparing their projects to be completed by Week 8. We have birdhouses being made for local wildlife areas, woollen hats being knitted for the NICU unit, fundraisers for different charities, Te Reo videos being made to teach our students simple tikanga and te reo phrases, and rocks with positive phrases on them being made to hide around the school. The students have loved this kit, and the resources really supported the learning.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Giving back to the community created a positive vibe. As we are a small rural town it was such a great opportunity to help those who needed an extra helping hand.

What type of project did your class undertake? Greenspace Project
The SVA kit has been invaluable to my classroom and school, and has create a drive and passion for the environment within my pupils which has transferred to other members of our school. This kit has been so easy to use and has allowed inquiry learning to flourish as each child had a different purpose and goal depending on what role they were playing. This was not only great learning for them but also for me! Our classroom decided in creating a project that was done on school grounds but that will add value to the entire rural community and whanau we live amongst. They researched, designed and organised TWO ";Garden Days"; where they encouraged and supported their school peers and families to help put in place their ideas and designs for a sustainable school garden area. This includes worm farms, compost bins, vegetable gardens, scarecrows, etc. As a class we have decided to continue our SVA roles and journey and have plenty more in store for our school and community!

What type of project did your class undertake? Fundraising
The students in my class had the choice of what section sparked their interest. I had several fundraising groups and intergenerational groups. They collaborated with their ideas of what and who to fundraise for. They learnt how to email back and forth, how to make phone calls to ask for support. Along with completing goals, allocating roles in their group, using strenghts to their advantage for posters, advertising, getting permission, RAMs forms etc. Lessons learnt about leaving things to the last minute and the pressure not being organised brings. Also learning about the satisfaction it brings to help others.

Excellent opportunity for learner agency and culturally responsive opportunities. The students really were thinking about the community and how best to meet the needs of our community. Truly bringing the localised curriculum to life.

It's been an interesting school kit, but we finally managed to run this one parallel with what we call our Puriri Passion Project. We managed to use facets of both to make a success of the few volunteer projects we ran this year. Our class which is currently a four class group have done numerous projects around the community. We had a Wig Wednesday, beach clean ups, teaching young students about sports, SPCA collections and numerous others. Some projects are still be finalised. This has been a great opportunity to teach our students about the importance of volunteering and making a difference in their community. Thanks for the great kit!

That kit is great, and my class have enjoyed exploring the different roles and researching about the SVA. We are still currently working on our social actions around this which will likely be making a difference in our local community with the environment- a new traffic free street design for the road outside our school which we are working on with our local council, also fundraising for donation to a food bank and looking to provide Christmas Kete for those in need.
