What was the community impact of your volunteering project? My students planned and ran a 'shop day' at our school. They made and sold food items to the students. They raised over $2000 and the money helped to funds trips this term for students across the school which otherwise may not have taken place due to the

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We are currently in the making stage of our food project, so the impact has not yet been visible for our beneficiaries.... but there is already a sense of purpose, generosity and appreciation from both the children and the adults with whom they are liaisi

What type of project did your class undertake? Greenspace Project, Project for Those in Need
My class (year 3/4) was inspired by this from the outset. To have voice, to find out needs in our community and to decide which project suits our resources and interests was very inspiring and motivating for our children. They loved the application form for jobs, the clear step by step process, and of course the badges and window stickers worn and displayed with pride. We had a whole class project improving green spaces in our school, cleaning up the community and helping with the Treemendous event. Then we used the knowledge gained to look at smaller projects the children could manage in groups. Children through interviewing school community that some people don't have enough lunch. They liaised with the school to plan weekly lunches that different groups were then rostered to take turns organising, buying, making and freezing in the school freezer for the admin staff to give to hungry children when needed. This kit has made the world a better place, even in the most humble of ways.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Our class plan was to work alongside our marae to create a Pā Harakeke for local weavers. We spoke to marae representatives about a possible location. My class had learnt and selected the ideal varieties for our area. We were to travel Auckland to coll

The kit has been an amazing resource to help prepare my students for the task at hand. I teach in a Rumaki setting, yet the SVA kit was still applicable. What helped the most was the building a team plan. I have a small class at present and there were enough roles for each student - having the explanation of each role and what was required made it easy for my students to transition into their chosen roles as they identified the skills required and skills they possess. Regardless of age, the badges were worn with pride and even now my tamariki have been transferring their new found role (skill) into the classroom environment.

It's a great idea for a pack but I believe there could be more supporting information for teachers in the form of online support materials E.g. videos of the process happening.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We volunteered around a rest home in our area that had been impacted by lockdown -we brightened the area with art, wrote letters, baked and gardened for the residents, but by far the most impact was the time and conversation from both sides.

Yet another amazing resource from School Kit -opening the doors to new learning, teaching empathy and understanding. In a year that has been so crazy and impacted so much it was incredible to see my students giving back so willingly and wanting to make a difference to others when they can at times be quite entitled and self absorbed. Thankyou!

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? While we didn't really get out into the community in a physical sense we relied heavily on Zoom conferencing, Flip Grid and QR codes to help keep our community safe due to Covid. My tamariki identified lots of areas in our community that needed some awhia

The students were really excited to open the package and see what was inside. We talked a lot about being helpers in our community, but due to Covid and other circumstances we weren't able to complete the kit.

Excellent resource that encouraged and rewarded the students for giving service to a neglected part of our community. Having each student take on a particular role for the activity deepened their understanding of the complexities of making things happen.
