What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Our project brought diverse people in our community together with a shared interest. It facilitated community interactions, and helped people see what small ongoing actions they could take to be more sustainable. We hope it will continue as a regular crop

My class has 20 (out of 30) diverse learners, many of whom really struggle with the size of an ongoing project and taking initiative, this project kit really helped them to scaffold the process and the fun badges and bands added a little bit of motivation and a sense of pride. The process gave a number of students the opportunity to shine and take a real sense of pride in what they were doing, and work towards a fantastic outcome. The main issue they identified is a lack of community within our local area, and wanted to find a way to bring people together.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We did a working bee for the Aged Care home next door to the school. We gardened, painted their benches and created an outdoor chess board. We had our lunch at the same time as them and joined in with singing happy birthday to two residents turning 90 and

The kit had really useful infographics and the personality profile was excellent. the children were able to use it themselves (Year 4-6 students) and propose themselves for the roles they wanted. The kids loved having the badges and armbands and were excited to be able to keep them as a memento. The different roles helped them work as a team and prepare for the day really well and they appreciated how their hard work and preparation made the day work so well they could enjoy it. I was so impressed with the way they took charge - I really had little to do except make sure all the t's were crossed and i's dotted! The gardening, sanding and repainting of benches, renovating of a letterbox so the residents and children can exchange messages, and painting of a chessboard on their verandah so we can play with our giant chess set with them were all tasks which will make our school's weekly visits to the home more exciting for everyone.

Great opportunity for the students to take on the different roles that were strength based. It was evident who felt comfortable doing what and when the students understood what their job description looked like, they knew what was expected of them and they contributed more to the projects and goals at hand.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Our first project was to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis NZ. This is a charity that we chose to support as one of my students has the disease. This first project has been an awesome way to reinforce the strong home-school partnerships that we have establi

The SVA Kit has been a fantastic resource. The students were inspired by the story of how the SVA came into existence. It enabled them to see that every act of kindness and effort can have a big impact on people's lives. The students really enjoyed the brainstorming and planning phase of the project. They generated some fantastic out-of-the-box ideas and quickly learnt that quite often ideas needed to be combined or modified to make them workable. It was an invaluable learning experience, and one that gave them insight into the hard work that goes into planning, organising and completing projects.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We focused on giving back to our community without the need for recognition so worked on a RAK day when students did small meaningful things to positively impact a range of people in our community.

Another great way to get students looking at how they can give back to their community. Excellent resources. My students enjoyed the skills analysis sheet and link to possible role in the SVA this led to. For many it is the beginning of a journey where they are starting to see that doing lots of small things can have a big impact on people's well being and brings sense of community.

My class were very excited with this project. The resources provided helped scaffold their thinking and build their collaboration skills. We had two main organisations that we wanted to support, so decided upon a large fundraiser that could benefit both. We worked in two different teams, using the roles provided with each. This would be a great year-long kit to provide more time and flexibility.

The kit and unit were really helpful in supporting us undertake our volunteer project. Some of the content/activities in the kit were pitched a little high for our year 5/6 students however resources were easy to adapt.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We hope that the impact is very useful fo rthe enviroment - but time will tell. We worked at the river (local to us) and helped tidy it up and did some work with the young trees that were planted to help them continue to grow and protect our river.
