What made you decide to undertake a tax based programme and specifically the Part of something bigger kit for your students? I was approached by a friend who was involved in the creation of the kit. We had already done some lessons on tax earlier in the year and my students were really engaged with the topic so I was keen to take the opportunity to dive deeper into tax with them.
If you were to re use this resource in the future, how would you see yourself doing this? (Eg, as a full unit, separately in other units of work, integrating into cross curricular lesson plans) I think interacting it in with other units of work would be good. I do find sometimes that students loose interest after awhile if we are focusing on the same content for too long.
How effective was the Melani interactive in increasing your students' understanding of tax?

Which part/s of the kit did you find the most useful in supporting you to teach financial literacy and why? The payslip was great for this! Supporting students to understand gross and net pay and where the deductions are going was great.

“My students loved the interactive nature of the School Kit. They really enjoyed creating their charcter profiles - taking this very seriously with a lot of discussion around the difference in wages - which really supported them with understanding different perspectives towards the tax system. Unfortuantely, we rna out of time to complete all the tasks. I am hoping to do this again next year with another class.”

What made you decide to undertake a tax based programme and specifically the Part of something bigger kit for your students? We needed to do a unit on Financial Literacy, this was like "manna from heaven"
If you were to re use this resource in the future, how would you see yourself doing this? (Eg, as a full unit, separately in other units of work, integrating into cross curricular lesson plans) I would probably look at integrating it into a cross curricular plan with the Commerce Department

“I found the set easy to follow and the material well set out. I had 3 classes doing it simultaneously, which was sometimes challenging. Overall, I would recommend to my HOD that we do this unit earlier in the year. Doing it in Term 4 was not a good time as they were writing end-of-year exams, went on retreats and generally it was difficult to finish the unit. I did not finish the unit, stopped at How would you distribute tax for the country.”

What made you decide to undertake a tax based programme and specifically the Part of something bigger kit for your students? We run a Year 10 Business studies class in the second semester of the year.
If you were to re use this resource in the future, how would you see yourself doing this? (Eg, as a full unit, separately in other units of work, integrating into cross curricular lesson plans) If we were to use it again we will need to access more of the write on scratch card resources. We would like to use it again if possible in conjunction with aspects of the Real Game that was put out by Careers NZ many years ago.
