We really enjoyed counting our steps. The maths involved was challenging. We learned a lot about calculating averages and also about the importance of fair testing when we were calculating the length of our average step. Thank you for providing us with the opportunity to do this. We think we did well as we had 16 students and a teacher on the day we tried to walk the length of NZ. We took an average of 13173 steps each.

My class loved this. There was some seriously robust discussion about the accuracy of the step trackers which was great.

The students enjoyed walking every day and logging the steps. We started off in the first week enthusiastically, but interest did fall off when we realised we were probably not going to make the steps. It was a timing issue, rather than the kit! The equipment was useful - our favourite item was the clickers. It did help children to think about how much they were moving each day.

We enjoyed walking most days and it was a great way to also think about how much exercise we are getting daily. The students really liked the resources, and our favourite was the clicker. We also used Google Sheets to calculate our data. It also helped us with our geography, when calculating how far we had walked. Time wasn't in our favour, so we didn't quite make it! Thanks School Kit!

What a fantastic and engaging kit! The tamariki were highly motivated throughout this Walk NZ kit. They learnt about measurement and converting distances. They enjoyed setting challenges and using the various pedometers to compare the distances they were walking. It was a great kit, that went beyond the classroom and encouraged our class community to take part. The tamariki loved taking part in this kit, it was a wonderful kit that made maths fun! along with incorporating other areas of the curriculum. Thanks again School kit and sponsors for keeping us all excited about our learning.

My class enjoyed the awareness this kit gave them about the distance the step and the amount of steps needed to work the length of NZ.

Our classes really enjoyed this kit. It gave them a chance to get outside of the class and explore maths concepts in a real context. The set of different pedometers also helped promote critical thinking amongst our learners and opened up a whole line of discussions and discovery that were unintended by us.

Children were really excited about receiving the pedometers, and used them regularly throughout the first couple of weeks they had them. The activity about the measuring and comparing steps was interesting. We had hoped to use them as part of out cross country training as motivation for running and to see how far we could run from one end of nz to another. However as they were not all the same, and many of them were unable to measure steps accurately- not to mention the ones that broke within the first two week, my class became quickly frustrated and lost interest. Some of the children could not see the point of using a pedometer that recorded hundreds of steps while sitting down eating their lunch. Could have been a great unit, but the quality of the product really made it unusable for my class.
