“Started off with a hiss and roar with some amped kids who went home to encourage families and friends. Unfortunately, with how busy our term got, enthusiasm dropped a wee bit over time. It really connected for those boys in my class who turn everything into a competition. Great discussions were generated re: validity of testing, daily activity levels, NZ geography”
“Our initial idea was to implemented this kit into our Maths and daily fitness programme, we are MLE so all children helped to combine steps. However, it was a very busy time of year and we had tangihanga within our whanau group, so we did not quite finish or put as much time into it as we wanted to. We would be keen to try again next year.”
“Great kit that I used as directed, but also added the element of a statistical investigation where the students compared the different pedometers. The kids really loved the authentic context! It will definitely be a kit that I will be applying for again next year!”

“This was an awesome hands on resource that got all our tamariki active, as well as using their mathematical skills. The students have loved using all the different pedometers and collating everyones steps.”
“The resources in this kit were awesome, the students enjoyed trialling and comparing the different pedometers. Steps were gathered, recorded, and compared against others in the class. We didn't get as far as donating steps from our community, but still learnt a lot from everything we did.”
“We have loved this School Kit teaching resource. Our Year 5 and 6 class all enjoyed learning about measurement through this investigation. The questioning and negotiation skills from our students was phenomenal as they planned and checked all of the steps. We would definitely do this again.”

“My class loved the concept of this kit and using the different resources to test their assumptions about the effectiveness of each one. The guide was easy to follow, and each stage was logical enough that my student teacher could implement it successfully. It provided an engaging and meaningful way to interact with measurement and statistics in a real life context.”
