Walk the length of NZ 19 Reviews

We have loved this School Kit teaching resource. Our Year 5 and 6 class all enjoyed learning about measurement through this investigation. The questioning and negotiation skills from our students was phenomenal as they planned and checked all of the steps. We would definitely do this again.

Resource arrived promptly and communication with School Kit has been great. We found the resource tricky to use as consistent shaking caused errors in our recording. It was good to have a variety of different pedometers in the kit for students to explore, but for the walk, it would have been better to have a class or half a class set of one type. I applaud School Kit for creating a valuable resource that was productive and engaging for learners.

It was an awesome kit to use that went well alongside our measurement unit. Students were really engaged and excited to use the pedometers each day. Resources were easy to use and had a lot of great activities.

We want to collate the huge number of steps from accross NZ, please share your final number with us. Our final steps are yet to be calculated, but the estimate is that we will at least get halfway up NZ even though we started late. We are adding them all up on Monday.
This kit was great. The children loved the different ways to count steps and as we had to walk to the Ham gardens and back for several events had great fun working out how far up NZ that would take us. A lovely way to end the year as we had to postpone beginning it with everything else we had on! I will use the ideas again in Maths next year. The facts poster included was a great way to draw them into this topic. It made the task feel achievable seeing it broken down into 278 people! Thanks School Kit!

Our tamariki are still getting used to using the pedometers. I introduced the concept of the pedometers in the beginning of term 3 but due to staffing we have not been able to complete our intended unit. However we have aligned the use of the pedometers with another kaupapa me will complete next year around wars in NEw Zealand. The tamariki did enjoy calculating the steps it would take to get from city to city that they were familiar with.

We loved this kit and modified it slightly so that we could use it throughout the whole term as we completed our virtual tour of the world (our inquiry for Term 4). Students photographed themselves in different cities and walked from landmark to landmark, counting their steps as they went . We averaged 1500 steps per day making our grand total 1,728,000 steps. Thanks again for inspiring us, Lara Syddall

My class loved learning about the different ways of recording steps, movements and distances. Even though we didn't manage to walk to length of NZ, the kids had a blast. Such a well resourced kit.
