We had to delay the use of this kit. But the kids and families loved it. So many cross curricula links. Fantastic resource yet again.

My young ones found this a little challenging but we were able to adapt. This was such a fun way to incorporate exercise into other learning areas meaningfully! Will be doing this again next year!

My class had a bit of a delay with this due to my surgery but they absolutely loved this kit. I was able to link this to Maths with my current measurement unit. I also made links to Health and PE as it fit in very well with our unit around healthy bodies; healthy minds. My class enjoyed learning new vocabulary which was fantastic as we have been learning to expand the words we use in our writing for audience interest e.g. trundle wheel, effective, accurate, count, ineffective. Here is a snippet of a review from Cooper, one of my Year 2 boys: ";The 'fitbit' was effective because when you took a step you didn't have to click anything that is why I loved it the most. The first one I had was a 'finger counter' and that wasn't very accurate because I walked from the deck steps to the big trees by the NE class and I had done over 1000 steps! Sophie, a year 2 student, wrote this review: ";I took 482 steps with the 'finger counter'. I realised that this one was better than the 'clicker one' because it was a bit tricky to remember to click it for each step. Here is another review written by Isla, a Year 2 student: ";I like using the step thingy because it tells you how many steps you took. I did 107. It was a finger counter. If you want to know how many steps you did you have to press a button. When you walk you have to press it each time . I really liked the fingers counter because you don't have to count because it tells you how much you have done. I really wish I could have one step counter thingy because I want to know how much steps I've done.

The children analysing the different pedometers and how accurate they were. We calculated steps for boys and girls and used dot [plot and compared data. The boys were better 'steppers', or more active than thw girls. We also used the measurement ideas from the School Kit to compare , using non-standard units of measurement. I would use these ideas again. We only did this unit for a couple of weeks as we were short of time but it was a great way to complete the term.

My class absolutely loved this kit. The week before we did the big challenge we walked every day and recorded our steps as we travelled up the North Island from Wellington. The kids learnt heaps by finding out about the places we reached each day on our map. The amount of steps recorded each day was a hot contest between my boys and we ended up buying KMart out of pedometers so they could all have one!!! On our challenge day everyone wanted to be outside doing as much as possible

We loved this kit - kids got so excited about it from the get go. They became super competitive too. Was great that this kit covered PE and maths and students could see where maths areas we have covered over the year could be applied to real life situations. Pedometers were a hit with many wanting to try all of them out for a week or so, although our step challenge was over!!

This was an amazing kit. My pupils found it both challenging and fun. The challenges were using the different pedometers which sparked lots of conversations and also problem solving. My pupils were put into 6 groups and were given a different pedometer each day so they were able to problem solve and record their repsonse to each pedometer. This kit also motivated my pupils to walk more especially around school eg: when doind a message for me they would take the longest route possible in order to get more steps. Whanau and friends of each pupil also donated steps daily so that we were able to hit our target. Thank you School Kit for getting my pupils up and moving and for allowing them the chance to problem solve with each of the pedometers :)
