“Our classes really enjoyed this kit. It gave them a chance to get outside of the class and explore maths concepts in a real context. The set of different pedometers also helped promote critical thinking amongst our learners and opened up a whole line of discussions and discovery that were unintended by us.”

“My class were so excited to see the pedometers when they arrived. This really motivated them to exercise as they were all keen to try out and compare the different kinds of pedometers provided. We spent several sessions learning about length and fair testing. Unfortunately we didn't succeed in walking far around nz as I went on leave and the reliever didn't finish the programme. An excellent initiative though and I would be keen to try again.”
“First email received asking to review. Kit arrived late and program was busy so didn't get to fully implement the kit as I orginally planned however great engraving way to teach meausrememt and getting kids walking. How do I ir do I have to send the kit back?”

“This was so much fun, my class loved exploring the kit contents and then conveniently timed it to occur with our school's fun day. We got to 2, 780, 561 steps in the end. the discussions around how we measure steps and make it as accurate as possible was interesting and the kit provided lots of rich tasks where students could investigate this themselves. We had other staff and students (seniors) that also learnt a lot as the Yr 8 class were constantly asked questions of what they were doing during the teaching about how to measure (even before they got to promoting it and signing up people to donate their steps)! Thank you so much, what an awesome kit!!”

“This unit complimented our training for the school cross-country. It was fun and engaging and linked well
to learning in maths. Thank you for the planning and equipment. We will be able to use it again.”

“The tamariki in the class I taught that day loved this activity. We set up a google sheet at the beginning of the day to estimate how far we would walk and then we set about our day. We ran, jumped and played as usual and the kids were shocked to see how far they had actually moved that day, even if it wasn't as far as they had expected.”
“Started ‘Walk the length of NZ’ today.
General consensus was that the ring was the most accurate for the steps. The bracelet one was the least accurate and really easy to gain extra steps. They had great fun with the shoelaces and lighting up their steps
Ironically they all wanted to try the bracelet first thinking it was the best, at the end that was the one that most switched out for another.”
“We really enjoyed this kit. It was a perfect way to link together our maths (number and measurement), literacy and physical activity. We used this kit to help build up to our school cross country. It was a great motivator as well!”
