Our students enjoyed this resource, and although we're only half way through it, they loved seeing the different lengths of their steps, to counting steps to the end of the court, field, gate etc.

This was an excellent kit and the students loved the pit stops along the way and learning about them. For many it inspired their curiosity to find out more about the small towns in NZ and for some they were able to make connections to marathons and distances travelled. Such an amazing kit that could be used in a vast number of ways.

I had no problem with the resources that were supplied or the intention behind the kit, in fact, I thought that both were quite good. The quantity of the work that was required was on the lengthy side and for my children who'd just come out of another lockdown, it just wasn't fitting their needs. I attempted to adapt the work to make something meaningful for my more able students but this just wasn't grabbing their attention at this point. I have to reiterate that this wasn't a reflection of the resources or the learning experience, more of the year that we're having.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? Students walked to school instead of biking or coming in the car. Parents and caregivers walked with them to add the steps.

The concept was excellent and the discussion was great amongst the kids. Those who who already had a step counter were less interested in an alternative way of recording/calculating steps. With so many short weeks for a variety of reasons, it was difficult to keep the momentum up for those who didn't have a counter, as they were not motivated to devise another process other than the process we devised for counting the number of steps assigned to a designated area at school. Overall, I believe the 28 students were more active.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? We could have done this differently by involving our families, and that would have had a wider community impact. In the end we decided to promote it across the classes, and involve them in the walk instead. We also invited some parents (during school time

We decided to take this on as an exercise to prepare for camp for our whole syndicate (90 kids). Our class worked on the first part of the challenge (measuring our steps, working out the length of NZ in km and then converting to steps). Students really enjoyed this part, and the maths proved really interesting and challenging. We then planned a bush walk where the other students could join us (during school hours). As we all walked the same walk (1.5 hour hill climb) we used my fit bit to work out how many steps we did for that day, then multiplied that by 90 people (that was how many students and teachers walked).

I did not understand how to use it and how the steps could be measured. When I emailed asking for support on two occasions I received no reply both times so the kit has gone un used unfortunately. I was really disappointed by this as I had heard such amazing things and I really wanted to try out one of the school kits myself.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? Other classes within our hub were invited, we participated in a fitness challenge, bronco runs, relay and sprint races, long-distance cross country training and whole school Athletics and Cross Country events.
We want to collate the huge number of steps from accross NZ, please share your final number with us. We have estimated at least 504,000,000. steps over a 30 day period. Hard because students who participated in cross country could decide to do one lap or two. Athletics day was also similar with kids participating in many different events, running, danc

Fantastic learning opportunities for students to track our foots steps and understand distances in steps, meters and km's travelled. We invited the whole school to also be measured during our cross country and whole school Athletics day.
