What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? After using our Water Testing Kit over a two day period our students wrote explanations around the threats to our local awa and why our awa is important. We also did art around different creatures found in our awa.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? We later identified that the kit could be used again when we did a whole school sustainability day earlier in Term 4. This meant that all levels (NE-Yr8) re-used the water testing kits in the stream that runs through our school.

It helped our students understand the importance of our Awa in the past, and allowed them to explore some of our local history. They also have a good understanding of the importance of it for our future,.

We recently visited the trout hatchery in Turangi and it was great that our students had learnt and had an understanding about the health of a river and could draw on this knowledge during our visit. I've used the kit several times with different ages and it really is a great resource for deepening thinking, gathering effective data (using the Nature of Science).
