Specifically paid for delivery of a new bed frame to the second floor. I must stress, the second floor was stated in the order and we paid specially for this delivery. They knew in advance that it was a second floor delivery and we had paid for this option.
When the delivery men arrived they first did not get out of their van for an extended amount of time and sat blocking the road. Then when they finally came to the door they immediately began complaining about having to take it up the stairs even though we paid for this service. They rang a woman who said that we would have to "accept liability" for anything that happened if they did attempt to take it up the stairs. She would not tell us exactly what we would be accepting liability for even when pressed, e.g. personal injury, damage to house, etc. The nature and extent of our "liability" remains unknown. I would have thought that a company that delivers and unpacks furniture in a professional capacity should have their own insurance that covers all aspects of moving and handling for their staff, if they are a responsible company.
The woman on the phone was extremely pressurising and when we would not agree to accept this mysterious unlimited liability, she tried to close the call saying they had other deliveries to do and they would just take the bed away again. We agreed to have the bed brought into the ground floor entrance and unpacked there. The delivery men huffed and puffed unhappily about this as well, though they barely had to move it five yards from their van into the entrance. They also only had one cutting tool between them which they were passing back and forth, and at one point threw a small fit over accidentally dropping this into the box.
After they were gone, my partner and I brought the bed to the top floor without any difficulty. This service was just disgraceful and unprofessional from start to finish. I've never experienced anything like it with furniture delivery before. Waiting for callback re compensation for the delivery fee.
