Avoid Booking.com- Serious security risk
Six months ago, my Booking.com account was hacked, and someone used my travel credit to make a fraudulent reservation. Since then, I've been in constant contact with Booking.com, reaching out almost every week to resolve this issue. Initially, they informed me that a portion of my personal data on my account was compromised and assured me they would resolve the situation promptly (within 48 hours). They claimed to escalate the issue to their IT/Security department and assured me I would receive a refund of my travel credit.
However, despite six months’ of assurances, nothing has been resolved. Each time I speak with a new agent, they either provide a different account of the situation after speaking with a manager or they inform me that my case is under investigation by their ‘Specialist’ (security) team, and I need to wait for them to contact me. There has been no confirmation that my personal data is secure, and my travel credit has not been returned. At this stage, I believe I’m being lied to; no respectable company that handles customers’ personal data such as booking reservations and credit card numbers would take six months to investigate a hacking incident (in my case, two within a few months). Booking.com refuses to take accountability for the breach, and their IT/Security department seems incapable of resolving the issue. This experience has left me concerned about the security of customer data and the lack of integrity in their service.
I strongly advise others to avoid booking with Booking.com, as customers may be at serious risk of account/personal data breaches due to poor security systems with no accountability from the company.
