I placed an order from a restaurant located right downstairs from my apartment. I immediately realized that the order was mistakenly set for delivery instead of pickup, which is what I had intended. I quickly corrected the error in the app and went downstairs to the restaurant to explain the situation in person. The staff there told me to contact DoorDash directly, which I did without delay. What followed was a frustrating, drawn-out ordeal. I was placed on hold multiple times, despite having clearly explained that I simply wanted a refund for a delivery that was never going to happen—I was already at the restaurant, ready to take the food myself. The restaurant knows me and was fully prepared to hand me the order directly. Yet, to my disbelief, the DoorDash representative claimed the order had already been delivered—a blatant lie. The food hadn’t even been prepared yet when I arrived, let alone handed off to a driver. I was placed on hold again, only to be ignored. On my third call, I was told that a delivery driver had just been assigned to the order. I explained, again, that I had been at the restaurant from the start and that a driver was completely unnecessary. Still, they insisted that since a driver had been dispatched, no refund could be issued. I looked around—there was no one outside, no cars parked, no drivers inside. I was the only person waiting for an order. I told the representative that no one was there, and she continued to insist the driver was present. Then, bizarrely, she said she could cancel the delivery now so the driver wouldn’t show up. That made no sense—how could she cancel it if, as she claimed, the driver was already there? So which is it? Was the driver there, or not? Or was he invisible? Because no one ever showed up. This was an absolutely terrible experience—completely unprofessional and deeply frustrating. It felt like a subtle way to steal from customers. And after checking the reviews, it’s clear I’m far from the only one who's been treated this way. DoorDash’s customer service is not only appallingly inefficient, but their refusal to take accountability shows an unsettling level of greed. Never again.
