Generally OK but expensive and although the boiler was successfully fixed, the dripping tap was not even though I purchased 2 replacement ceramic washers. It was unfortunate that the plumber/heating technician was unable to return on the day booked due to ill health and this meant a delay over a bank holiday.

Dear Mrs Child Thank you for your review, we have looked into the issues with the delay on the second visit and the tap problem. We apologise for the delay in the second visit which was unfortunately increased due to the bank holiday weekend. The parts for your boiler were stated as obsolete by the manufacturer which would have usually meant a new boiler was required. After calling and visiting several small independent suppliers we managed to obtain the parts to fix your boiler, as these were the last parts available and the engineer who had them on his van had called in sick on the day he was due to fit them, there was no way of sending one of our other engineers out to complete the works. With regards to the tap which was leaking badly on arrival, we replaced the cartridges on the hot and cold which reduced the leak significantly, although the filter tap part was still letting by. As we could not remove the cartridge from this part as it was seized into the tap body we isolated the supply from underneath. This stopped the leak and left the tap working with both hot and cold supplies fully functional excluding the filter attachment. We apologise again for the delay in the boiler repair which although is not up to our usual prompt service, but on this occasion it was unavoidable. Best Regards A&D Plumbing Services 0800 9755166

The engineer that was called out to my house was friendly and helpful, and turned up well within the 4 hours. Following that the service was not overly good. I did not get a quote for a few days (I was completely without heating and hot water) and when I did the part was over £40 + VAT more expensive than going online and buying it myself. The caller was not willing to provide me with a part number, but I managed to find it online regardless. I opted to buy and fit it myself.

Dear Harriet We apologise for the slow response in forwarding the quote for the parts your boiler required. This is not the normal service we aim to provide, with parts prices usually being obtained the same day. Due to the limited access to the suppliers, the reduced opening days and hours of the suppliers between Christmas day and New Year's day, combined with an exceptionally high demand for our services as a result of most other plumbing companies closing over the festive period, resulted in a slower than normal service. With regards to the price of the part costing more than online. We do add a mark up to all the parts we fit which is well within acceptable levels and covers the costs involved in sourcing and collecting the parts, All parts that we supply are covered by the manufacturer and A&D Plumbing Services for a year, meaning that if any fault develops with the parts we supplied or work we carried we will rectify the issue free of charge. Customers do on occasion source their own parts which we are happy to fit although we can then only offer our guarantee on the fitting and not the part as well. We can sometimes give out part numbers if a customer requests them but this is not always possible as the suppliers only issue us with the part name and cost without the part number. We do feel on this occasion our services fell below the level we would usually obtain. Due to this problem having arisen we have now allocated a member of staff to the specific role of sourcing part details and prices in order to keep our response time to a minimum and further improve the service we offer in the future. I phoned for a quote to cap a 15mm gas pipe and carry out pressure test. The quotation was £80 per hour. Fair enough, I thought he would only be here 30 minutes maximum, all was prepared, so expected about £40 plus VAT. The engineer arrived at 3pm, did a pressure test first, to check no existing leaks - all ok. Cut the pipe, capped it with a 15mm compression fitting. Re-tested - all ok. Job complete, filled out the forms, all done in 20 mins, but I was still charged £80 plus VAT. I guess I was too polite to question this, but it did seem a little unfair given they advertise as 'No call out fee'. I didn't see anything about a minimum time call out?

Dear Mr Gregory, We are sorry to hear that our prices did not match your expectations regarding the service we provided in capping your gas pipe. Looking at our records we can see that you called regarding the gas pipe you wanted capping at approximately 1pm on a Saturday. We responded to your request and had one of our engineers arrive at your property 2 hours later on the same day and complete the works. We quote our prices on an hourly rate, and although we only ever charge the first hour in full, all additional time is charged for every additional 15 minutes to try and keep customers bills to a minimum. Seeing as your quote was £80 an hour and we always charge for the first hour, that is the price that we charged on this occasion. We try to offer value for money with our services and we do not charge more for a Saturday. On this occasion with the experience level of the engineer, the 2 hour response time and the fact that it was a weekend we feel the price was reasonable. Your repair also comes with a 1 year parts and labour guarantee. Best Regards A&D Plumbing Services

Too slow spent £600 for a shower that gave no hot water

We’re very sorry to hear that we didn't meet your expectations for dealing with your case. We attended the site on 25/11/15 to find the power shower was not working. We managed to make the unit work but only briefly. On 26/11/15 we quoted to replace the shower giving either 28/11/15 or 30/11/15 as the earliest installation dates available. The date of the 30/11/15 was chosen. When we removed the old shower we found the wall behind the shower required repairing which would require another engineer which we sent the same day to carry out the repair (although this additional work was not included in the original quote there was no additional charge added for this). We also sent the installer back the same day so that the installation was still completed and tested on 30/11/15 with all operating instructions for the shower being left on site. After a couple of days it was reported that the shower was not getting hot enough, we booked a revisit for 07/12/15. On the agreed date we attended site with a replacement shower in case the installed one was faulty we could fit the new one the same day. We found there was no fault with the shower and it was not being used correctly. The shower was only being turned up to 41 degrees which is the highest it will go up to the red safety button. We instructed the customer that when the red safety button is depressed the shower will go up to 46 degrees (anything above this temperature would cause skin to burn). As there was no fault with the shower or the installation this visit would normally have incurred a charge as it would not be covered by our 1 year free of charge parts and labour guarantee. Although this was the case we waived this charge. Since the visit on 07/12/15 we have had no further contact to say the shower is cold.
