“I joined Anytime Fitness Chiswick as an asylum seeker with very limited English. On the day I signed up, I clearly explained to the staff that I did not understand the English language, had no income, and was not employed. Despite this, I was asked to sign a contract without being told that it was a 12-month binding agreement. I was assured multiple times that I could cancel anytime.
I trusted their word because I had no way of understanding the fine print, and I believed they would be fair. Unfortunately, that was not the case. When I tried to cancel due to my financial difficulties, I was met with cold responses and told that I had no choice but to keep paying.
This experience has caused me great emotional and financial stress. Taking advantage of someone who doesn’t speak the language and is in a vulnerable situation is completely unethical. I hope no one else has to go through what I did.
I do not recommend this gym to anyone, especially to newcomers, immigrants, or those who may not fully understand the terms they are being pressured into.”
“I am disabled and the lift broke to the gym making it hard for me to access. Staff continually told me the lift was about to be fixed, so I continued my membership. I was offered one month of free access as compensation. Yet, this went on for over 7 months, so I tried to cancel and explained the situation but was told I'd have to pay another month despite not being able to access the facility. I was threatened with debt collectors if I did not pay. A huge waste of money for me and really dissapointing way for a gym to treat people with disabilities.
From reviews others seem to have had similar bad experiences - seems a lack of any moral decency.”
