In my experience, this company offers very poor communication, weak instruction, and no customer support. I completed 4 hours of driving with the instructor they assigned me and found the quality of teaching unhelpful and below what I would reasonably expect from a professional driving school. A crucial six-month validity limit on my 10-lesson block was not clearly shown at the time of purchase and was instead buried in lengthy terms and conditions. When I questioned this, they relied on a so-called text message about the expiry which I never received and which appears to have been sent to incorrectly recorded contact details. Rather than acknowledging any responsibility or offering flexibility, they chose to keep the money for my unused lessons, hiding behind unclear, misleading information and hidden terms. Between the poor quality of instruction and the way they handle customers once they’ve been paid, I would not recommend this company. There are so many other better driving schools out there who actually care about the success of their clients. STAY AWAY

Very disappointed with Drive Johnson's. My instructor prioritized money over my learning, and when I asked for support, the company refused to help, saying they couldn’t intervene because they weren’t in the vehicle! As a learner, you cannot rely on them for proper guidance or support.

This is doing the rounds on various fb groups. A driving school car with the Johnson name and an illegally spaced numberplate, which obviously raises serious questions as to the suitability of the instructor and the quality of instruction. ALSO the name spelt out on the mis-spaced registration plate doesn't match that of the instructor, suggesting the instructor is illegally subbing work out to non-ADI's.

I’m absolutely over the moon with my driving lessons and for passing my test with Chibu in Stevenage! From the very first lesson, Chibu made me feel comfortable, confident, and fully supported. His calm teaching style, patience, and clear explanations helped me improve so quickly. He always knew exactly what I needed to work on and made every lesson productive but relaxed. Thanks to his guidance, I went into my test feeling prepared — and I passed! I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor. If you’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about your progress and makes learning to drive an enjoyable experience, I can’t recommend Chibu enough. Thank you so much, Chibu! 🚗🎉

I was under the tuition of Paul Houghton, who was recommended to me by drivejohnsons. Paul was very enthusiastic, very polite taught me all the right techniques to get me through my test first time, with only 2 minors.I was very nervous at first driving around Oxford then Paul put that to bed. He got to be the GOAT. 100% recommend

I done my lessons with John Ferguson at drivejohnsons and honestly he was brill. From the start he made me feel at ease even tho I was proper nervous about driving. John always explained things in a way that made sense to me and if I got it wrong he was calm and just went through it again til it clicked. The best bit was he never wasted time, every lesson we was moving forward and I could see myself improving fast. The office were easy to get hold of to book in and the pupil app helped loads for sorting lessons out, so I never had to worry about forgetting when I was on. I ended up being ready for my test sooner than I thought and passed first go which I didnt think would happen. Would deffo recommend John and drivejohnsons to anyone wanting to get on the road, cant thank him enough.

I passed my test in just 25 hours with Chris at DriveJohnson’s. Chris is an excellent instructor and very knowledgeable, patient, and supportive throughout every lesson. He explained things clearly and made me feel confident behind the wheel. I’d also like to mention the DriveJohnson’s bookings team, who were super helpful and friendly when arranging my lessons. Everything was smooth and well organised. I’d definitely recommend both Chris and DriveJohnson’s to anyone looking to learn to drive!

I learnt with Jeff Brooks from drivejohnsons and honestly couldn’t of asked for a better instructor. He was really patient with me but also pushed me at the right times so I didn’t get stuck going over the same things again and again. The best thing about learning with Jeff was how clear he explained stuff, it just made everything click quicker for me and gave me loads more confidence on the road. I was test ready in under 25 hours which I never thought would happen. Booking in was easy with the office, no stress at all and the pupil app was really useful as well for keeping track of lessons and making sure I knew when I was booked in. I’d definitely recommend Jeff and drivejohnsons to anyone wanting to pass their test fast but still feel confident and safe driving afterwards.

I’ve just passed my test first time with Nicola Cobley from driveJohnson’s and honestly couldn’t be happier. I only needed 22 hours over 2 months, which I still can’t believe! Nicola was such a brilliant instructor, really calm and patient but also pushed me when I needed it. She explained things in a way that actually made sense and never made me feel stupid for asking questions or getting stuff wrong. From the start I felt comfortable in the car with her. Each lesson I could see myself improving which kept me motivated. She gave me loads of helpful tips and always pointed out little things that made a big difference on my driving. Honestly I don’t think I’d of passed so quick without her. The driveJohnson’s office staff were also great – every time I called up they were helpful and sorted out anything I needed really quickly. Just made the whole thing stress free. The learner app is a proper game changer as well. I used it loads in between lessons to go over bits I wasn’t confident on. The test route videos were probably my favourite part because I could watch them before my test and it made me feel so much more prepared on the day. When I was on the actual test I recognised some of the roads straight away which gave me a boost of confidence. Overall I’d 100% recommend Nicola and driveJohnson’s to anyone. She’s a lovely instructor and knows exactly how to get you ready for test day. Passing first time in such a short amount of lessons says it all really – thanks Nicola!

Instructor had gone through manoeuvres and lessons lowly and repeatedly, been on his phone most times whilst driving. Said i need to do 5 lessons a week to drive (clearly milking me for money) We were working towards the test date he forgot and then told me to move it after i do a theory test renewal and that i can pay him to secure an earlier date. Spent 50+ hours and lost confidence of driving. I had one really good instructor before this who fell ill, who actually wanted me to pass but ended up with this horrible instructor who only saw money.

My Experience with driveJohnson’s Amazing Honestly can’t recommend driveJohnson’s enough. I just passed my test first time this month after doing a 30 hour course with Alex in Milton Keynes. Turned 17 in May 2025 and pretty much jumped straight in, best decision I made. What makes it even better is it’s not just me. Both my sisters learnt with driveJohnson’s too and guess what – they both passed first time as well. On top of that, I’ve got at least 5 mates who done their lessons with them and yep, all passed first go. That kinda track record speaks for itself really. Alex was my instructor and he was spot on. Proper patient, explained things in a way that made sense, and never made me feel stupid if I messed something up. He pushed me when I needed it but also kept the lessons chilled so I didn’t stress out. Every lesson I felt like I was learning loads without it being too much all at once. The 30 hour intensive was perfect for me. At first I thought it sounded a bit full on, but it was actually bang on. We covered everything step by step – roundabouts, dual carriageways, manoeuvres – and by the time test day came round, I felt ready. Alex even gave me loads of little tips that came in handy on the test. Went in a bit nervous but came out smiling with that first time pass. Booking with driveJohnson’s was dead easy too, no hassle at all. The office team sorted me out quickly, got me in with Alex, and everything just ran smooth from there. I’ve heard people say learning to drive can be stressful but honestly with these guys it was enjoyable. The lessons flew by, and I actually looked forward to them. The fact so many people I know have passed first time with driveJohnson’s just proves they know exactly what they’re doing. So yeah, if you’re looking for a driving school that’s reliable, friendly and actually gets results – I’d 100% go with driveJohnson’s. Big thanks to Alex and the whole team, buzzing to finally have that freedom on the road.

I recently completed a 28-hour intensive driving course with driveJohnson’s and passed my test first time with only 1 minor fault! My instructor, David, was brilliant—calm, patient, and really clear in his teaching, which gave me the confidence I needed on the road. The office team was also incredibly supportive, helping me find a driving test quickly and making the whole process stress-free. I also made great use of the learner centre on the driveJohnson’s website, which was packed with useful resources that really helped me prepare for my test. The videos and explanations was really helpful and easy to understand. I can’t recommend driveJohnson’s enough—fantastic service, excellent teaching, and a really supportive team that genuinely want you to succeed.

I don’t normally write reviews, but passing first time with John from driveJohnson’s in just 18 hours deserves some bragging rights. Most people I know have taken 30, 40 lessons – some even more – and here I am, passing quicker than it takes them to learn where the clutch is. John knew exactly what he was doing with me from lesson one. He didn’t waste time on endless “driving round the block” nonsense – he got me learning properly, quickly, and effectively. Every lesson felt like it had a purpose, and he had me driving like I’d been on the road for years in no time. Confidence? Through the roof. Knowledge of the test routes? Spot on. Teaching style? Straight to the point, no sugar coating, and that’s exactly what worked for me. John gave me the tools to smash the test first time, and that’s exactly what I did. The driveJohnson’s system makes the whole process easy too – from booking lessons to the app full of useful resources. But let’s be honest: the biggest flex is passing in 18 hours, first attempt. Thanks to John, I did it, and now I’m officially better than my mates still struggling after months of lessons.

My Experience Passing First Time with driveJohnson’s I’m absolutely delighted to say that I passed my driving test first time with zero driver faults after just 25 hours of lessons with my instructor, David Avery from driveJohnson’s. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience, from the very first lesson to the moment I left the test centre with my pass certificate in hand. Learning with David Avery David was an outstanding instructor. From the beginning, he quickly assessed my strengths and areas for improvement and tailored the lessons to my pace and needs. He was patient but also pushed me when I needed it, making sure I developed not just the technical skills but also the confidence to drive independently. His teaching style struck the perfect balance between professional and approachable—he explained everything clearly, always checking I understood, and he encouraged me to ask questions whenever I wasn’t sure about something. What stood out most was how calm he remained, even in stressful traffic situations. Instead of making me feel nervous, he reassured me, turning potential mistakes into learning opportunities. That supportive approach made me progress much faster than I expected. I never felt like I was just “ticking boxes” in lessons; I was genuinely learning to become a safe and confident driver. Without his guidance, I doubt I would have achieved a first-time pass with zero driver faults—something I’m still incredibly proud of. The driveJohnson’s Learner App Alongside my lessons, the driveJohnson’s learner app was a huge help. It gave me a clear structure outside of lessons and allowed me to track my progress as I went. The app covered everything from manoeuvres to road signs and hazard perception, so I always felt like I could prepare and revise in my own time. It made a massive difference because I didn’t feel like I had to rely on lesson time alone—I could reinforce what I’d learned at home and come to each session more confident. The way the app breaks down the different skills really helped me identify areas where I needed extra practice. For example, I struggled a little with roundabouts at first, but after reviewing the videos and advice in the app, I was able to approach them with more understanding and confidence in lessons. The Learner Centre Another fantastic resource was the learner centre on the driveJohnson’s website. It’s packed with videos that cover a wide range of driving topics, from manoeuvres to general advice on safe driving. I found these especially useful in the run-up to my test. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I had access to short, clear videos that reinforced what David had taught me. What I liked most was that the videos weren’t overcomplicated. They gave me simple, step-by-step guidance that I could watch again and again until I felt confident. This resource was one of the reasons I was able to pass so quickly—it gave me a head start, meaning I didn’t have to spend endless hours in lessons covering the basics. Support from the Office It wasn’t just David and the online resources that made the difference; the driveJohnson’s office staff were brilliant too. They were always friendly, professional, and ready to help whenever I called. A particular highlight was when they managed to secure me a driving test at short notice. With waiting times being so long these days, I was worried I’d have to wait months, but the team worked hard behind the scenes to find me a slot much sooner. That effort meant I could take my test while everything was fresh in my mind, which undoubtedly contributed to my first-time pass. Overall Experience Looking back, I can honestly say that choosing driveJohnson’s was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. In just 25 hours, I went from a complete beginner to a safe, confident driver who passed with zero faults. That outcome speaks volumes about the quality of the instruction, the usefulness of the learner app and online resources, and the dedication of the whole team. I would recommend driveJohnson’s to absolutely anyone—whether you’re nervous about starting, short on time, or just want the best possible chance of passing quickly. They have everything you need: expert instructors, fantastic resources, and a support team that goes above and beyond. Final Thoughts Passing first time was something I never thought I’d achieve, especially with such a clean sheet. But with David Avery’s expert guidance, the amazing driveJohnson’s learner app, the helpful videos on the learner centre, and the support from the office team, I not only achieved it—I did so in record time. If you’re looking for a driving school that genuinely cares about your success and gives you all the tools to get there, look no further than driveJohnson’s. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

Title: Passed First Time with Just 2 Driver Faults – Thanks to Dave Cobley and driveJohnson’s! I’m absolutely thrilled to share that I passed my driving test first time with only two minor driver faults, and I owe it all to the outstanding teaching and support from my instructor, Dave Cobley at driveJohnson’s Driving School. From the very first lesson, Dave’s calm, professional, and friendly approach instantly put me at ease. Learning to drive can be daunting, but Dave has a way of explaining things that makes them easy to understand and even enjoyable. He broke down every manoeuvre into manageable steps, ensuring I not only understood how to do it, but why it’s done that way. His patience never faltered, no matter how many times I needed to practise a particular skill. One of the things I appreciated most was Dave’s ability to tailor each lesson to my needs. He quickly identified the areas I was most confident in and those that needed more work. Instead of rushing, he took the time to make sure I built a strong foundation of safe driving habits. Whether it was perfecting my clutch control, improving my observation skills, or polishing my roundabout technique, Dave made sure I was test-ready and beyond. Dave’s encouragement played a huge role in my confidence on test day. He constantly reassured me that I was capable, which helped me stay calm under pressure. By the time my test came around, I knew exactly what to expect thanks to the realistic mock tests and constructive feedback we’d done together. That preparation meant I could focus on driving naturally, rather than worrying about the unknown. Achieving a first-time pass with just two driver faults felt amazing, and it’s a testament to the quality of instruction I received. Dave didn’t just teach me to pass a test – he taught me to be a safe, confident, and considerate driver for life. I would highly recommend Dave Cobley and driveJohnson’s to anyone looking to learn to drive. If you want an instructor who is knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely invested in your success, Dave is the one to choose. Thank you, Dave, for making the whole experience such a positive and rewarding journey!
