I have given one star as I can not give none. Apparently if you cancel your insurance early you get charged a fee for it. I got a text message saying I had to contact recoveries because of a shortfall on the premium when I had paid in full and cancelled with a month left. Seems like a con to me. It's in your T&C's so beware people.

Unfair cancellation fees Absolutely robbing young people. Cancelled policy which had been paid in full.policy still had 4K in the to run on. The company claimed that they get to retain 90% and then had the audacity to charge an extra £20 cancellation fee. Reporting to trading standards and also the financial ombudsman. The terms are not set out clearly.

If you dare to pass your test while driving on a Collingwood annual learner policy, you will be charged £35! Apparently this is in the terms and conditions but as far as I'm concerned it is a forced hidden fee. Collingwood required that after passing your test, you inform them and they cancel the policy. As you have chosen (??) to cancel your policy, you then get charged a cancellation fee. This is ridiculous. I do not recommend taking this insurance out as you will get penalised once you pass your test.

Please don't believe the quote they give you for learner driver insurance. Buried in their documentation, is an additional "cancellation fee". Considering that many learner drivers will pass their test within the year of the insurance, this cancellation fee is so likely to be incurred that it might just as well be included in the premium cost. They separate it out purely to rank higher in the comparison sites. Very bad practice, bordering on a scam. I've been in touch with Collingwood to air my disgust at their practices, and they have a very well-prepared response that covers their own proverbial backsides. Collingwood does a very good job of further tarnishing the already bad reputation of the insurance industry further. Avoid.

This company is unscrupulous and I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Rip off exit fee when you pass! If you are comparing prices and paying up front for a year BEWARE. They claim you get unused months back. LIE. They claim it is easy to claim back unused months. LIE. What they actually mean is this. Pay up front and think you are getting a fair price but really we ste laughing at you because IF you pass we will charge admin fees that render any return void or in many cases you owe them money! Scummy firm.

I paid for a years insurance up front for a learner driver ( clues in the title that he would be seeking to pass his test).. he passed with about 4 months left on the policy.. I rang them for a quote on insuring him as a qualified driver and they took that to be me ‘cancelling’ his learner policy.. I wasn’t and didn’t ask for money back on the unused months.. however, they then told me there’s a £35 charge for ‘cancelling’.. I pointed out I wasn’t cancelling as I’d already paid up front but all they do is refer you to the t&c’s.. however the info is buried in there is such a way as does not make it clear that a learner passing his test is ‘cancelling’ for which there is a charge.. like others, I wished I’d read these reviews first.. I would never recommend Collingwood and to me they are operating spurious business practices by adding in hidden charges that most will end up liable to pay…

You have been warned. Most learner drivers do not require a long-term insurance policy. Collingwood exploit this by charging ridiculous, extortionate, and unfair cancellation fees when learner has passed and no longer requires this insurance. In our case, the cancellation charges were the same as three monthly payments for the policy! Collingwood will hide behind the "well, you signed the T&C's" excuse. Be warned!!! Avoid them. They also insist on taking the monthly premium by debit card rather than direct debit. This ensures they can just take the charges when you cancel and you cannot do anything about it.

Do not use this company! I wish I had read these reviews before I bought Collingwood Learner Driver insurance for my son. When we phoned to let them know he had passed his test we were informed that in passing his test he had effectively cancelled the policy and so was liable for a charge of £35. (Hidden on page 12 of terms and conditions) He also would not get the remaining two months of cover left on the policy refunded. I have referred the matter to the financial ombudsman now.

DO NOT USE the whole point of a learner policy is when they pass their test you cancel policy but with this company they charge you, we were charged £40 cancellation and £31.97 for remainder of policy for 12 months that we aren’t even using so in total paid an extra £71.97 to cancel. Other company’s don’t charge so use them and avoid these unless you mind paying extra. Also you don’t earn ncd unless it’s been over 10 months where as my other daughter had hers rounded up to 12 months ncd a lot earlier so read the small print because this company is a con

Please note all the five star reviews are fake, and come from Collingwood employees, who get paid a small amount of money to upload fake reviews on here, like Collingwood employees get 50 percent commission on collection of payment of hidden fees from there customers, which 90 percent of these customers are vulnerable teen age drivers, who get completely ripped off by Collingwood avoid this company like the plague

Collingwood insurance is currently… will scam you out of money Collingwood insurance is currently scamming thousands upon thousands learner drivers out of hidden fees, if you pass you test thay will not issue you with any unused premium payed and will fine you with a £ 35 fee for passing your test, and will black mail you, with holding any no claims bonus certificate, and will pester you with threatening phone calls and text messages demanding money from you, this is a scam, I advise you to avoid this company like the plague, and report them to trading standards, let the press know, ie newspapers, TV stations, social media, let your mp know, write to Martin lewis for help, the public need to know this is a insurance scam targeting very young learner drivers,

Yet another poor youngster scammed by this bunch of cowboys. All is rosy when you take out the policy but thats where the fun ends. They are impossible to deal with and hide behind BS and small print. My feeling is that because the sums involved they think they will continue to get away with this scam as people will just get disheartened and not presue them through legal means. AVOID THIS BUNCH OF SHYSTERS LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!

AVOID!! Awful and a rip off! Like other reviewers, have found the fee to cancel is a rip-off it appears to punish people who have successfully passed their driving test. Also losing the remainder of the premium you've already paid for the policy is also another rip-off. Note we did not cancel the policy we called them to buy a qualified drivers insurance but were told they don't do insurances for qualified drivers and passed us through to another company which is even worse than them (which I will not name) offering insurance about 4 times the cost of anyone else, we later found also their reviews are very very bad. They are now threatening legal action if the fee is not paid, however not sure they can carry this through as was under 18 when signed up.

Learners insurance is a good price, the catch is the admin fee. It cost £35.00 to change our address when we moved and then when my daughter passed her test it costed another £35.00 to cancel the policy and no refund for any remaining policy. I think this cost needs to be made more clearer when policy is taken out.

Don't go near this company if you pass your test within 12 months. My Daughter had 6 months cover remaining and cancelled due to passing yest, not refund, but a £35 cancellation fee. Bit of a scam company
