“STAY AWAY - absolute joke of a company, internal complaints department is an embarrassment. Totally inaccurate telematics policies being sold at ludicrous prices, misleading policy information & impossible to contact. Take your money elsewhere, big English companies always cheaper.
- telematics policies give inaccurate speed/distance calculations in areas of poor signal. Accused of speeding "Red Events" over 20 times in a 1 year period
- penalties for driving at night/early morning/too many journeys per day
- breakdown cover mis-sold as "full coverage" only provides 10 miles cover. Ideal when stuck somewhere late at night.
- want to contact them ? Spend over an hour on hold per time.”
“Been with hughes for many years, built up 16 years no claims! My car was 1.8 Litre and valued at £4000!
Decided to downsize to try and save , got a much smaller vehicle(in size) and cc 1Litre!
Insurance went up £50 A MONTH, no other detail changed, address etc??????? Unable to give me an explination.”
“Worst insurance ever had my son on my insurance for 2 years it was 840 pounds when he got his own insurance and was not on mine any more it was still 840 pounds and I have been driving 30 years”
“1 of the bad companies are Northern Ireland bad customer service
Bad everything
The will try at any way to rip you off
This is a typical Corboy insurance company”
“Everytime I've called about my bill my quote service's needing a copy of ID sent to phone as soon as possible fo r verification they are friendly helpful positive and quick to respond.
They're truly good hearted people. You're not just a number. They know and remember you by name. Love you guys.”
“My missus has been with Hughes quite a while and changed her car to a younger car but HUGHES quoted her an EYE WATERING EXTRA SUM to insure the new car. I told her to check around for other options and found that EVERY SINGLE QUOTE CAME IN UNDER HUGHES QUOTE BY A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT. She chose AA who comprehensively insured her car for slightly more than the extra money Hughes wanted on top of what my missus was paying. So, she cancelled her Hughes insurance and WAS ROBBED OF £60 by them. She initially wanted to use Hughes, but they were FAR TOOO EXPENSIVE and not competitive. I don't recommend them.”
“Having been a loyal customer with Hughes for over thirty years, I cancelled my motor policy after my car broke down and was sent for scrappage. I was not in a position to acquire a replacement vehicle and renew my policy within the stipulated seven day period. Hughes then advised me that I was liable for a cancellation fee of £98, and they followed this up with the threat of a referral to a debt collection agency, a touching thank-you after thirty years as a loyal customer. To my huge relief I've now managed to extricate myself from this company, having nonetheless been relieved of an extortionate sum just to close my policy. Having complained, I was told in summary that Hughes were very sorry but that's just how it is.”
“I have just spoke to a customer service manager at Hughes and told her of my intentions to write this review - I have been trying to cancel my insurance for 3 weeks now . I have spoke to multiple agents who all confirmed that this would happen on the 30th April - Got daily texts and emails asking me to contact urgently everyday ,which I did, only to be told that it was an error and again my isurance would be cancelled as per my wish on April 30th - The reason for my cancellation in the first place was that i was able to get alternative insurance at 50% of the cost which is not my issue - but today i have been told that my insurance was not cancelled as agreed on every call - and is still in place up until today and that will now cost me an extra £47 pounds- My advice - Stay clear of this company at all costs - definitely feel ripped off”
“Very helpful staff. Patient in going through the insurance package and explaining anything that I was not sure of. When I went back to them to retrieve my quote, they wanted to make sure the handler that took the time in the first contact, got the sale. I thought this was a good indication of staff satisfaction.”
“Terrible company, don't know how they are still in business or get any customers. Charging loyal customers extortionate fees, quotes, admin charges and prices. Even when lockdown hit, most insurance companies gave their customers a discount with their cars not being used much and only for essential journeys.. But not Hughes, they still made sure they got their full money every month. Would never go near this company again! 83% terrible rating on trustpilot, they need to take a look at all the reviews and try and rectify where they are going wrong but they aren't interested in doing that.”
“Horrible company that add on fees driving people into debt and then keep adding more on top of that along with threats to collect money.
Avoid at all costs as they really should come with a phone number for the Samaritans as that’s what they drive you to.”
“Avoid Hughes Insurance at all costs. Changed a car during the year and found them to be over twice the price of another company.
Cancelled my policy and was hit with a £60 cancellation fee. Wouldn't release my proof of NCD until I paid a balance of nearly £30. So paid it.
Phoned again to ask my my NCD hadn't been emailed only to be told I need to pay another £90!
Still haven't received my NCD so can only presume they are holding it to ransom, even though I had been told twice they would email to me immediately.
As it stand its about to go to the FOS as a formal complaint.
A complete joke outfit, avoid!”
