Got a Question?

Hi, is it necessary to fully brush all tangles out of a curly labradoodle coat before clipping? Clippers I have bought so far (Wahl and a cheap Amazon brand) have lost their sharpness within one use, but it is really difficult to get rid of all tangles before clipping my doodle. Will Masterclip clipper blades last for longer?
Asked by Lisa Gulland (2 months ago)
Hi Lisa Curly coats are a bit tricky as they tend to get a bit tangled and matted and no clipper blade will be able to glide through easily like on a shorter coated dog. The more preparation you do the longer the life of the clipper blade. Which blade you choose is a big part of the story too. Curls are often better clipped with skip tooth blades or comb guides where the teeth are spaced out a bit further allowing the hair to feed to the cutter more efficiently. The professional blades are superior for this type of coat too rather than cheaper blades. The more oil or blade care spray you use the better to keept the blade running smoothly and keep it cool and well lubricated. In essence the more preparation you do the better and sometimes it is worth cutting some tangles out with scissors to get the blade to work better when it runs through the coat. You can also chip away at matts with the shorter 10 blade before you start the body clipping. Let me know if you need any futher help with this. Kind Regards Susie

I am thinking of purchasing one of these to use on my Airedales - has anyone brought these specifically for their Airdales. If so, do they work well as I don't want to purchase straight away as it is quite a lot of money

We have a very tightly curled Goldendoodle can you please tell me which would be the best option of your mains clippers
Asked by Jackie Haycock (1 year ago)
Hi Jackie, We have a listing for a Goldendoodle clipper set which has a mains powered clipper and three blades which are a 10, 7 skip and 5 skip blade. The 10 blade is a very short blade great for trimming the sanitary areas and feet and the two skip toothed blades are ideal for clipping the body and should cope well with those tight curls. The 7 skip will leave 3mm of hair on the dog and the 5 skip will leave 6mm of hair on the dog. If you would like to leave a bit more hair on your Goldendoodle then an alternative would be to use our mains clipper with 4 comb guides for a 3mm, 6mm, 10mm or 13mm finish. This set should cope equally well with your Goldendoodle's tight curls. Kind regards Jo
