“My First Pharma Role I’ve officially transitioned from healthcare into the pharmaceutical industry. When I joined PharmaLink I wasn’t sure companies would take my previous experience seriously because I didn’t have direct industry experience. The programme helped me understand how to bridge that gap rather than pretending the gap didn’t exist. I’ve now started my first pharma role and recognising terminology, processes and concepts I’d already encountered during training has made a huge difference to my confidence. There’s still loads for me to learn, but I finally made the move.”

“My Science Degree Wasn’t Enough I thought having a life science degree meant I already had a decent understanding of the pharmaceutical industry. I quickly realised there was a lot I didn’t know. The programme helped connect the science I’d learned at university with how things actually operate within industry. The scenario sessions were particularly useful because you start understanding that pharma isn’t just technical knowledge. There’s communication, deadlines, different functions and real decisions involved. I’m now completing the practical stage and starting to think seriously about which roles I want to target. I finally feel like I understand the industry I’m trying to enter.”

“I Expected a Sales Pitch and Got a Reality Check I joined the Pharma Career webinar quite sceptical because I assumed eventually it would turn into someone trying to sell me a dream about working in pharma. Instead I got a reality check. Dorothy was very direct about the market, what employers actually want and why so many qualified people are applying repeatedly without getting anywhere. Some of it was uncomfortable because I recognised myself in exactly what she was describing. What really stood out though was hearing the students speak about the support they’d received and how much their confidence had changed. You could tell there is a genuine drive to help people behind PharmaLink. Dorothy is also clearly a straight shooter. She’s not going to promise you a job or tell you everything you’re doing is amazing. I left the webinar knowing exactly where I’ve been going wrong and I’ve decided to stop blindly applying until I’ve addressed those gaps.”

“As a Healthcare Professional, This Was My Lightbulb Moment As a healthcare professional, I genuinely thought my experience would automatically make me attractive to pharmaceutical companies. I couldn’t understand why I kept applying and getting rejected. The Pharma Career webinar was the first time somebody explained the gap in a way that made sense. Dorothy didn’t say our experience was irrelevant. She explained that many of us have valuable skills but don’t know how to translate them into what pharmaceutical employers are looking for. I’ve now stopped applying randomly and I’m taking the time to work out which direction within pharma actually makes sense for my background. I wish I’d understood this before sending out so many applications.”

“I Kept Collecting Qualifications I’ve been trying to get into pharma for over a year. Courses, certificates, applications, LinkedIn. I’ve done all of it. During the Pharma Career webinar Dorothy explained why collecting more qualifications isn’t necessarily going to solve the problem if employers still can’t see evidence that you understand how industry actually works. That one hit me because it was exactly what I’d been doing. Hearing current students then talk about their own journeys made it even more relatable. I left with pages of notes and a completely different perspective. I’ve actually stopped randomly applying for the moment because I need to fix the gap rather than keep doing more of what hasn’t worked.”

“I Actually Got Emotional I wasn’t expecting to get emotional on a career webinar. One of the PharmaLink students shared her journey and it honestly felt like she was telling my story. Similar background. Same frustrations. Applying for roles and wondering why nothing was happening. Starting to question whether changing careers was even realistic. Hearing where she’d started and how much had changed for her really got to me. I think I’d spent so long assuming everyone getting into pharma had something I didn’t have. I came off the webinar emotional but also incredibly motivated. I don’t feel like I’ve missed my chance anymore. I just haven’t had the right strategy.”

“The Webinar Explained Why I Wasn’t Getting Anywhere I joined the Pharma Career webinar expecting a few tips about getting into pharma. I wasn’t expecting to basically have my entire job search explained back to me. I’ve been applying for pharma roles for months because I have a life science degree and genuinely couldn’t understand why I wasn’t even getting interviews. When Dorothy explained the difference between being academically qualified and actually showing employers that you’re industry ready, so much started making sense. Then hearing students who had been in exactly the same position talk about their journeys really brought it home. I left feeling slightly called out, but also relieved. For the first time I understand why my current approach hasn’t worked and what I actually need to change.”

“Formatting Nearly Defeated Me Formatting was probably the thing I struggled with most. The additional masterclasses with Khadija and Katie were honestly a lifesaver. Things were broken down practically and eventually it started making sense. I’m now much more confident formatting my assignments independently and things that used to take me hours don’t anymore. Still not my favourite part of medical writing, but at least it no longer scares me.”

“I Already Had Pharma Experience I wasn’t completely new to pharma when I joined, so I did wonder whether I’d actually learn much. I did. There were gaps in my regulatory knowledge that I hadn’t even realised were gaps. Knowing what a regulatory document is and understanding how it’s actually developed are two very different things. I’ve now completed the programme and I’m using what I’ve learned to target medical writing opportunities more strategically.”

“One TikTok Video All it took was one TikTok video for me to start looking into PharmaLink. I’d been thinking about leaving healthcare for a while but didn’t really know what else I could do with my background. I eventually joined the medical writing programme and the practical work completely changed my understanding of the profession. You’re not just being told what a protocol or CSR is. You’re actually working through the documents. I’ve since completed the main training and started preparing for applications. For the first time I actually know what I’m applying for and what will be expected of me if I get the job.”

“NHS to Pharma I decided to take a risk and complete the Regulatory Medical Writing programme because I wanted to move away from the NHS. The biggest benefit for me was learning through actual regulatory documents rather than simply learning about medical writing. I’ve now successfully moved into the pharmaceutical industry. A lot of what I learned during the programme has been directly relevant in my new job and having that familiarity when I started made the transition much less intimidating.”

“I Nearly Didn’t Join I almost talked myself out of joining because it was a big investment for me. I kept thinking I could probably find everything online for free. The problem was I’d already been doing that for months and still didn’t understand how people actually did the job. I’ve now completed the live training and I’m working through the supervised part of the programme. I’m not job hunting yet, but I finally feel like I’m developing actual industry skills rather than endlessly researching how to get into pharma.”

“The Feedback Wasn’t Always Easy I won’t pretend I loved receiving feedback every time. There were assignments I thought I’d done really well on and then they came back with far more comments than I expected. Initially that knocked my confidence. Eventually I stopped seeing corrections as a bad thing and started paying attention to the patterns in my feedback. I’m now completing my final assignments and the difference between my earlier work and what I’m producing now is honestly night and day.”

“My Story Isn’t Finished Yet If you’re joining, don’t expect yourself to know everything immediately. I made mistakes, misunderstood things and had moments where I genuinely questioned whether medical writing was for me. The experts didn’t expect perfection, but they did expect me to improve. Looking back, I think that’s what made the difference. I’m now at the end of the programme and preparing to start applying. When I compare my first assignments with my recent work, the difference is huge. I haven’t got the pharma job yet, so my story isn’t finished. But I finally feel like I’m entering the market with something tangible to offer rather than simply hoping somebody gives me a chance.”

“PhD to Regulatory Medical Writing Coming from academia with a PhD, I genuinely thought writing would be the easiest part for me. I was wrong. Regulatory writing requires a completely different mindset. Megan’s feedback was incredibly detailed and initially I did wonder whether all of it was necessary. As I progressed, I started catching some of those same mistakes myself and realised I was having to unlearn years of academic writing habits. I’ve now completed the programme and I’m preparing to enter the job market. I can open a regulatory document and understand what I’m looking at, which I definitely couldn’t have said when I started.”

“Nurse Looking for a Different Life I joined PharmaLink after years of nursing because I knew I needed a change. I love being a nurse but the shifts and lack of flexibility were becoming difficult. The transition wasn’t as easy as I thought. Pharma has its own language and there were definitely weeks where I questioned whether I could do it. I’m now applying for roles and have interviewed with companies I honestly didn’t think would shortlist me. I haven’t secured the right role yet, but getting into those rooms has shown me that the transition is possible.”

“Halfway Through PV Currently halfway through the PV programme and my experience has been really positive so far. The database training has probably been my favourite part because you’re actually applying what you’ve learned rather than just listening to someone explain pharmacovigilance. I’m not applying for jobs yet because I want to complete my training first, but I already understand PV job descriptions much better and can see how the work we’re doing relates to actual roles.”

“I almost talked myself out of joining because it felt like such a big investment. Looking back, I’m glad I trusted the process. The programme challenged me, but the support from the experts gave me the confidence to keep going, even when I doubted myself. Special thanks to Megan who delivered all live sessions, she had such a wealth of knowledge and experience that really helped me.”
