“Handrails come bent for the price of oak they charge should not come bent”

“Screws too long, wall plugs too short for them. They were Poor quality. Wall brackets unnecessarily complicated, always will be 90degrees so why Allen key adjustment? Look good when eventually installed”

Hi Anna, Thank you for your review. It is a common mistake that people make regarding screw lengths and plugs. The screws should always be longer then plug and there are many videos on line where you can see this if you do get stuck. “Good quality fittings, actual rail/ pole is fine but it will be down to you to obtain the quality and type of finish required as the wood comes ‘as cut’. I needed to buy extra brackets, these I later discovered were way overpriced. Precisely the same were significantly less in B&Q. Overall way over priced for what is in effect a pole of wood and some brackets.”

Good Evening Mick, Thank you for taking time to reply to our review request. There are a couple of things I would like to point out to you. Our brackets are stainless steel and sourced from Italy. I can assure you b and q do not sell the same. They will be a cheap mild steel bracket which is coated in chrome plating. We do regular checks on the larger diy companies and although they look similar they 100% are not. The timber we use is solid oak. It’s not laminated or veneer etc. it’s sustainably sourced from the USA and is solid American Oak. Whilst I agree our handrails are expensive they are of the best quality. “The glass was just dumped on my front garden without any notice of delivery I was very disappointed by this as we had spent quite a lot of money for this product”

Hi Stephen, Thank you for your review. I am sorry but we did email on 26th June to say that your glass would be delivered on 03/07. Our glass plant would have called you on the day of delivery for you to be there to take it. Usually, if no one is home, they refuse to deliver as they struggle to lift the heavy panels off by themselves. This is why we always notify our customers as the driver's often require their help. The driver has clearly tried to ensure you didn't have to wait a week or two for re-delivery and delivered 175kg of glass on his own. I am sorry that you are disappointed with our delivery service, he was trying to avoid any delays for you but I will pass on your comments. We hope that you are happy with the overall product. “I purchased two 120mm handrails, the quality was very good, but one handrail had incorrect spacing of the holes for the brackets, i.e. the brackets require the holes to be 40mm apart, but the threaded holes in the handrail were 47mm apart, so only one bolt and some contact adhesive were used.”

Hi Alan, Your handrail was ordered on the 7th April (Saturday) we then had the bank holiday where our factories where closed unfortunately. The rail was delivered on the 19th April which was the 7th Working Day, this was also on your order confirmation and shown when ordering. “All looked good until we noticed what appears to be a paint mark on our new rail. Will have to live with it, I guess, but still disappointing as it’s an expensive item and we obviously wanted it to look perfect.”

Hi Corinna, Thank you for taking time to leave a review. The paint you mentioned on your review, it looks like white paint and there is no reason for this to be on the rail from leaving us. Had you of emailed of called we would have gladly sorted this for you. If you lightly rub fine sand paper on the rail it should sand off for you. Simplehandrails.co.uk

“We love the hand rail. It looks great but there’s a slight warp in both parts. The screws provided weren’t very substantial as the electric screwdriver shredded the Philips head on the screws.”

Hi Anne, Thank you for taking time out to do a review. Just a quick note it is all over the website regarding not using electric screw drivers for this reason. Solid oak is a really tough material and pilot holes and a normal pozi screwdriver should be used. If you need any screws replacing drop us an email on sales@simplehandrails.co.uk. “Gotta be honest, I was a bit disappointed. The screws were way, way too long and couldn't be replaced with shorter ones of the same type. The screws that fix the rail to the fixings were silver, whereas all the rest of the fixings were copper. The rail was a little bent (Although not so much as when fixed to the wall, it straightened up) There was no centre hole predrilled at the ends to fix the end caps. I know it was walnut, but for nearly £300 I did kinda expect it to be perfect.”

Hi Craig, Thank you for your review. The screws to that fix to the wall have to be of a substantial length to meet the loadings, they do work with the plugs and look good when done. You shouldn't of had any stainless screws at all. We can get some sent out if that helps? In regards to the timber it is a natural product and although we only well the highest grade timber it can bow after being cut our end. Again we can replace this for you if needs be. We don't add the end caps as alot of carpenters who use us like to cut the rails on site. If you are struggling to align it centrally a rubber mallet can be used to square it up. “The handrail and hardware are pretty much as the website photographs. The hardware is the best bit. I was expecting to see the rails oiled but they don't appear to be. When checking the invoice and the order the finish isn't listed so maybe that was my fault. The quality of the cut on the rails isn't brilliant hence three stars. It looks like the saw has been forced through tearing the grain on the saw exit about 2-3mm. Too much hassle to return and then wait for replacements. Will just need to rub down and put on the underside out of sight.”

“Really like the look of the installed handrails and quality of the main fixings. I did find it very tricky to fit the end caps neatly and securely. On my second handrail this didn’t work well at all. The grain in the end of the rail and hardness of the wood meant that the screw (or drill bit) was pushed out of centre. Then when fiddling with it the screw came out slightly and one the metal fitting is on the end there is no way to take it off again and readjust the screw. So I end up with a less than perfect job, that still looks ok.”

“I'm hopeful the product is good but NOT happy with delivery!!!!! Fabulous emails and up to date BUT I was away and asked for delivery commencing the date I would be home - however arrived whilst I was away and left propped up by the front door!!! Thankfully my neighbour noticed it and rescued it!!! I gave both my neighbours as delivery options but that didn't happen!!!!”

“Purchased a handrail and fittings on Monday 28th November after being told they had the specific length I requested in stock and that I would receive it within 5 days. The handrail finally arrived on Monday 12th December but unfortunately, the antique brass end caps were missing. Contacted the suppliers, who were friendly, helpful and polite and the missing items were dispatched to me immediately. The product is of good quality and was easy to install.”
