I have a question as to the validity of the Grand Effects statement that their Fire Bowls with the electronic ignition satisfy the 2017 NEC 680.22(B)(7) and can be placed closer than 5' from the water of a swimming pool, this section clearly states that the "Low-Voltage Gas-Fired Luminaires" ignitor cannot be grounded in order to be placed within 5' of the pool water and their wiring diagram and ignitor are very clearly "grounded". Can someone please clear this up to me. Thanks

The Grand Effects systems statement is correct, in that it can be used within 5' of a pool. The "ignitor" itself is not grounded, per the NEC code. However, the burner system is. So the diagram you are seeing is to connect the ground to the burner system, not the ignitor itself. This complies and satisfies the NEC code. I hope this answers your question. One word of caution is to make sure that when you order your burner systems, you clarify the location of the fire features so we can make sure that your burner is properly made. We still offer 24v systems to the majority of customers for fire pits that are further away from a water source than 5', so it is helpful to us if we know where your fire feature is going PRIOR to placing the order to avoid any possible mix up.
