“Avoid avoid avoid the holiday homes are not as advertised paid for a holiday home costing 5k for a week including a private pool hot tub/jacuzzi and sauna the 3 things we wanted for our first family holiday for over 2 years, only to find out when we got there the hot tub had been removed with no notice given. The sauna trips out the swimming pool heater and filter system which they where aware of but still did not mention or perhaps fix before our arrival. The wall surrounding the patio area was dangerous and my 73 year dad would have fallen through it had I not been there to grab him. The Croft near Hereford is not worth 3k a week let alone 5. After bringing all of this to there attention they offered us £75 discount and admitted they new the hot tub had been removed but failed to inform us after numerous emails there final offer was £150. what a joke of a company they then blamed it all on the owner. Thank you to both sykes and the owner for spoiling what will probably be the last family holiday my dad and mother have with there great grandchildren. My family will never use your company again we will go back to cottages for you. Oh and they removed there offer of 150 compensation. Shambles, false advertising and not fit for purpose. just wanted to add they are the most unhelpful company you could ever deal with they have no clue what customer service is the company is a joke and needs training in dealing with genuine problems/complaints with empathy, people are spending a lot of there hard earned money on a family holiday its supposed to be a fun relaxing time and with this company it clearly is not. they just do not care once they have your money

This had to be the worst holiday i have ever been on. The cottage was infested with flies, we had no running water for over 24 hours, no shower, no toilet as the flush did not work and needed a new flush, the launderette was a joke and would not release out clothes because of the problem with the water so our clothes were filthy and wet, faeces nearly overflowing, the dog ran 3 gardens as it is NOT secure, we are seeking legal advice as sykes do not care !!!! and ignore messages and calls. disgusting service as well as accommodation

The worse company ever, no empathy what so ever, a family member passed away, leaving the family in such a situation to continue the holiday home. This was due to the pandemic and covid, a second family also very sick , tried to cancel as it was not live to take bookings as you could understand. Still demanded a fee for setting up absolutely nothing. Kept issuing invoices until I gave up and paid a fee to stop my credit rating getting obliterated which was reduced but still didn’t cancel and demanded. I offered to speak to the marketing director which I will get to contact one day and discuss why why . Horrid company to work with please think twice

After your holiday, you return home to find an email from Sykes asking you to give feedback, which they say "is SO important". When you try to do this you find you go through a series of steps that is supposed to lead you to a "Feedback form". It doesn't: you are returned to the "How can we help" page that you start with! So, you CAN'T give feed back and you CAN'T reply to the email requesting you give feedback because it is a "no-reply@sykescottages.co.uk". With Sykes you pays your money and you takes your chances. Good luck; we won't use them again.

Arrived at pop's barn Wiltshire yesterday 24/9/22 for our weeks holiday, First holiday in 11 years, unfortunately it was not as expected, we knew it was a barn conversion and that it was small, but just how small it was disappointed us. we took our dog with us (rottweiler) and there was no space what so ever to even put his bed down, the garden is only suitable for small dogs, maybe this should be stated when asking if you are taking a dog, (ask for the breed). there is also no mention of steps leading into the property, they would be a problem for an elderly person with knee problems, the garden was also overgrown and outside table and chairs where in need of a paint or replacing, so needless to say, we arrived at pop's barn around 3 O'clock, and was on our way back home by 4 O'clock, after giving our dog a quick walk and to stretch our legs. after the drive, what a total waste of our hard earned money, (any chance of a refund)

Appalling customer service, booked a property and paid in full, received eight emails in confirmation. Two weeks later, received an email from Sykes cancelling the booking, no explanation or reason was given. I thought the email could be some sort of scam or mistake so telephoned Sykes Customer Service, who confirmed the cancellation, they could/would not give me any reason why the cancellation had occurred. I then had to find alternative accommodation which took some considerable time. I went onto Sykes web site to leave a review, to my utter disbelief the property was being re advertised as available for the same dates I had previously reserved ! I contacted Sykes to try and get an explanation. I was informed they did not have one ! I would have thought that Sykes would want to know why a property owner had treated a customer so badly, alas, how wrong could I be, Sykes had no interest. On Sykes web site the proclaim, "we're passionate about providing great customer service". This is clearly not the case, my experience is a prime example of dreadful service. It would appear Sykes have not changed their ways from the way they treated customers during the Covid pandemic. Furthermore, Sykes are the second worst UK holiday booking company, based on a 2022 survey by Which Magazine, (they were the worst in 2021 ).Now I know why, my experience supports this, I will never use them again, there are numerous other booking platforms. You have been warned !

Myself and family stayed at yew tree barn near Pickering from 03/09/22 to 10/0922 and had a wonderful time the location and peaceful surroundings were fabulous. We were greeted to a bottle of wine, cake and flowers on arrival a sweet touch.Plenty to do in the local area you definitely don’t have to travel to far. The barn had plenty of accommodation for us all and more than enough for us to do. Had a lovely time and would just like to congratulate the owners for making our stay a warm and memorable one. Thankyou Tim and family.

Booked little London house in Ninfield as it was advertised as having off road parking for 2 cars. On arrival found that this was not the case and as we had no way of parking our safely off the road we went straight home. Sykes cottages have told us they can do nothing about it so we’re not prepared to refund our money. However they have now changed their description on their site - very convenient. They know they were wrong and still not prepared to offer a refund. Would NOT recommend them to anyone.

Oak Tree, Halwell, Devon. We felt the location of our holiday cottage was good and it was great to have access to a swimming pool. There were however a few issues. The accommodation was not particularly clean, especially the windows and kitchen. There were a number of issues requiring maintenance. For example, the door handles came off, the shower ran every time we or the neighbouring property flushed a toilet or ran any water. The furnishings were very outdated and tatty. The curtains, suite, conservatory furniture and kitchen utensils all needed changing. It is shame, because the property has potential but is in a 1980's time warp!

Communication was ok up until the point of when they had my money! I will never use them again. They cancelled my booking after taking full payment as they apparently misunderstood the owners confirmed availability. But when I called to check they were refunding the money I was told it was with their finance department and it would take them a few days to look at their emails!! So no holiday and no refund! I have no confidence they are going to actually refund me easily so I know this won’t be the end. Avoid and use other companies to book your holiday!!

We stayed at valley lodge 11, Honicombe Park, Callington. The lodge was a good size with a living area and kitchen upstairs and 3 bedrooms downstairs. We had already contacted Sykes prior to arrival to request that the beds were ziplocked into doubles and this was done. Towels and tea towels were provided Upstairs was modern and clean with a cooker, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. The bedrooms however were unpleasantly smelly, particularly the wardrobes, we bought 3 static air fresheners which helped slightly. The weather was poor so it wasn’t warm enough to dry anything that was washed, a heated clothes rail or tumble dryer would be beneficial. The hot tub was great, and undercover so not weather dependant. The WI-FI is awful, not good when you can’t get out and about. Hot water is also limited, you have to boost it a little while before you need it and if you use the shower downstairs it knocks off the electricity upstairs. This played havoc with the fridge and it was difficult to keep the food as cool as it should be. A few too many negatives for us so we won’t be returning.

Damp and active black mould was growing on 2 of the walls of the cottage we hired through Sykes. The smell was overpowering when we arrived and still remained, to a much lesser degree, when we left. We contacted, and sent photos, to the owner who offered to buy and send a dehumidifier for us to use. The dehumidifier arrived after 3nights of our 7night stay. We bought a bleach based cleaner and after setting up the dehumidifier, emptied it approximately 4 times a day for the rest of our stay. This made using the main bedroom more acceptable although not comfortable. It would be a major issue if you have a respiratory problem. We also had to try to air the property and put the heating on in the bedrooms during the day, in the middle of summer. We find it hard to understand how this problem had not been brought to light before. However, the response from Sykes Cottages has been abysmal. Our emails to the Executive Office have been ignored and customer relations have classified it as minor condensation, despite the photos and offered a £50 “goodwill” token. We do not expect to have to clean and maintain a cottage we are hiring. Black mould is a health hazard and not a slight inconvenience. We will be taking this complaint forward until an acceptable refund has been offered. Sue and Wendy

Booked a holiday with Sykes for August 2022. Cottage looked lovely on add and quite rural but when we got there, there was a shared drive and houses very close. Very misleading. The house was dirty with a childs dummy under the bed, cobwebs everywhere, dirty bins, dirty windows. Outside there were weeds everywhere which spoilt the outside experience too. This house had not been cleaned properly for a very long time. We spoke to Sykes who we had paid and dealt with the whole time but they said it was up to the property owner to sort it, but they wouldnt give us contact details? Sykes were happy to take our money but did absolutely nothing to help when we complained it was dirty! Will never use them again. Terrible!

Recently stayed a week in a cottage booked through Sykes and, having arrived late at night due to traffic hold-ups, found the bedroom wasn't clean. There were used tissues & general dirt & dog hair behind the bed which obviously hadn't been pulled out and cleaned for quite some time and black marks on the wall at the bed head that looked like mould. When we contacted Sykes, including photos, all they did was relay our complaint to the owner who was unwilling to provide any sort of compensation (or apology). After contacting them again we were told there was nothing they could do about the situation as they were just the booking agent and if we wanted to take it further we would need to take legal action against the owner of the cottage. Sykes are clearly quite happy to take customers money and then do absolutely nothing to support them when there are issues with the holiday - why would you bother booking through an agent if it gives you no protection whatsoever? You might as well book direct with the owner and take your chances. I wouldn't use Sykes again - the initial issue was upsetting at the time but subsequently dealing with Sykes and their attitude has been far worse and ruined memories of our holiday

Booked cottage from them. Missed a line saying no upstairs bathroom (bedrooms all were upstairs.) Tried to cancel on the next weekday as my huband or to transfer to another cottage in the same complex. They said my deposit was non refundable.

We stayed at Quantock View,Oake Somerset. What a lovely spot , with great views and a great host in Sally. Nothing was to much trouble for her. Accommodation is beautifully set up for a couple who just want to escape. Far reaching views towards the Qantocks while watching sunset was beautiful. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone who just wants a bit of peace and quiet. A Shepherds hut like no other for sure.
