Oakapple cottage Lyndhurst rented 3days £1450 . No heat no hot water due to faulty boiler tripping every few hours. No key for bike store no dartboard, rats in back yard, downstairs shower room floods after every use as no drain point making very dangerous and slippery. No logs for fire and couple of dodgy other points in upstairs bathroom Sykes don't appear concerned about any points made so probably best avoided

Beware of this company. The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. 72 hours for a manager to respond that’s what the customer service department told me. !! Last week had no reply whatsoever. Rang yesterday told same story so 10 hours in would anyone care to have a small wager that they don’t return my call. Absolutely shocking. Can’t begin to imagine what would happen if you had a problem while on holiday. We haven’t even made it to the accommodation as yet . 😩😩😩. So sad we are being treated in this awful way after being regular customers for over many years. Come on Sykes treat your customers with respect!!

I don’t Sykes look over properties properly or interview their owners as owners can be pretty rude and uppity yet not too uppity to need to re their Cottage out!

If you have to book with them do NOT take out UK holiday cancellation insurance with Sykes , it is a complete waste of money , not worth the paper it’s written on . The Sykes advisers are not trained to explain how pre existing conditions such as hypertension (raised or high blood pressure ) will affect your claim . Even if it is controlled and absolutely nothing to do with why you are cancelling you will not be refunded by the insurance company. I had a lower back injury and the pain was too bad for me to travel to Wales by car , so I thought I’d get my money back but no . The upselling of insurance is purely to make more money out of the customer and my advice would be , don’t take it out , in fact don’t uses Sykes .

Up to now I have no qualms with sykes. My husband and I stayed in a chalet in Bridlington. The three piece looked ok until you say on it couldn't get up as it was that low. Living area had far to much furniture in it. Sliding door entrance is far to high it needs a proper step.

We have booked our hokiday on the low deposit scheme for November 2021 for 14 nights We have had to change it a few times due to covid and the fee of £30 ech time is a bit steep!! I have been trying to contact sykes about changing our property as my osteoarthritis in my knees and hands has got worse , I am registered disabled tooand my partner has been diagnosed with chronic fatique syndrome. Making his joints very sore too The property has a spiral cast iron stair case and the bedroom in the tight eaves of the place!! We want to change to another proprty but just cant get hold of the company!!! NO email address Phone call cuts out saying tget are too busy I am rather annoyed at the lack of communication options Plus sykes have the terms & conditions on low price bookings they want you to pay a steep cancellation fee Can they please answer theur calls or provide a email address asap

We have rented a property from Sykes on a few occasions but this year their customer service has been appalling. We booked an apartment in Wales from the 18th Sept but unfortunately family circumstances arose whereby we could not go. I tried phoning them many times to let them know that we would not be taking up occupancy of the apartment but in the end just hanging up as there was no response. I emailed on the 24th Sept and 26th Sept (when they asked us to vote for them at the upcoming holiday awards) JOKE - I am still waiting for a response to my emails. There was no contact number on the paperwork for us to get in touch with the owner of the apartment, so it seems we have waived goodbye to over £500.00. It also seems that Sykes are only interested in taking a hefty deposit and helping themselves to the final payment some 6/7 weeks beforehand (they may as well wear masks)

Extremely poor customer service. Booked a property in February (for next New Year) and was very surprised to get an email from the company in July informing me that a decision had been made to apply a £150 deposit to the booking. There was no mention of this in the original agreement and no mention in the email of how the deposit would be administered or how any disagreements would be arbitrated. Repeated requests by email from me have elicited no response from the company. A phone call from me, involving a 30 minute wait, was answered by an agent unable to answer any of my questions.

Mengarth property . Cadgwith Cove . Lovely property with extensive and interesting planting . However , the standard of cleaning is well below average . All toilets and kitchen equipment had to be cleaned on arrival by me . The en-suite toilet it is impossible to sit on it unless you sit side on due to lack of knee space ( I’m 5 ft tall p.s.) The couches are unclean . The whole place around all the windows is dirty and needed cleaning . All the doors are dirty too . As we are in the middle of a pandemic we stayed as little other options . There are some really interesting objects in the house and I can see it was once spectular . An alarm goes on at midnight when you go out the front door , but I had no way of turning it off . There are scant instructions on how to use most things in the house and none for this alarm . In short a great old house once but in need of a very good clean .

We stayed at Jordan House in Boscastle and were very disappointed. Firstly the situation with parking was extremely difficult to say the least. We had to compete with locals, second home owners and other holiday makers for a parking space down a very narrow road. The locals would get very upset with the situation and understandably so. Secondly and most important, was the cleanliness of the cottage. bearing in mind we are in the middle of a pandemic you would think, and expect, the cleanliness to be A1, unfortunately this was not the case. Dust and dirt was found in most rooms, old toasted breadcrumbs around and under the toaster, grease and fat on the front of the fridge and the sides of kitchen units and the kitchen sink was filthy. There was a smell of rotting vegetation in the living room which we discovered was coming from the chimney. The owners had obviously not had the chimney swept in some time and nesting materials was dropping down into the fire place. When sitting in the garden area you would be consumed by the strong smell of oil from the tank directly adjacent, unbelievably the owners had provided a BBQ for use directly next to the oil tank (an accident waiting to happen). Overall we were very disappointed with the cottage and would certainly not recommend this to anyone.

Finally they are seeing sense and paying out. Be careful, do not accept credit notes, keep insisting that the contract has been frustrated - I've been at this since begining of April and today received news that they are paying out in full. So go on take heart and keep emailing requesting refunds - It is the law of the UK - no if - No buts!!!!!

Left a neutral review last year struggled to get it on their website eventually they did, next year gave a mainly positive review but with a few small issues again not published. I would not use Sykes again as their reviews are obviously selective.

I have rented 2 apartments through Sykes this year and on each occasion their customer service has been useless when dealing with problems. The first was in Dartmouth in June 2019 when they e-mailed me a week before we were going, to warn me that there was building work next door. I rang them immediately to find out what the work was and what options we had, with no helpful response. I then saw the review from the previous renter to find that the view was obscured by scaffolding and angle grinders running from 7:30 in the morning till 5 in the afternoon. I rang Sykes again to see if they could offer an alternative, they would not provide alternative accommodation. Needless to say I cancelled the reservation and asked for my money back, then found better accommodation elsewhere. The second was in Scarborough in July 2019. The "stunning" apartment was one of 6 in a smart looking building pictured in the web page. When we arrived we found the appartment was actually in the rear car park not one of those in their web picture. Cars were parked next to the lounge windows. The only entrance to the other apartments was next to our lounge so blinds were drawn for privacy. The windows of the Convalescent home next door looked straight into our lounge windows. Sykes also neglected to mension the apartment number in their confirmation so had to try the code they gave us on all 6 key safes to find which was ours. I rang Sykes to see if there was any alternative accommodation and again they were unhelpful.
