“Whilst at Horsforth Leeds carvery heard the manager Craig having s challenging phone call.
Very impressed by his professionalism and courtesy.
Deserves it acknowledging.”
“Had a carvery here today Friday 19th December 2021 but even though it became mandatory today to wear a face mask I was very alarmed to see that not one member of staff was wearing one”
“Ok we had a take away , but still had to go into it as I had a voucher . No big deal infact it was better as I got to choose my own meat and veg it was sooooooo yummy infact they gave me an extra takeaway carton for my veg so we have enough food for tomorrow as well ! The only down side is the deserts are a lot of money for what you get and should be cheaper as they are takeaway also only a tiny bit of custard so overpriced and small portions . So that’s why I gave a 4 x”
“First time Visit .Wont be Returning ..The Food was very bland, The Meat was Tough and Fatty Ham was Salty Potatoes lumpy Carrots Hard ,Gravy Tasteless .Decent Yorkshire Puddings Dessert were OK”
“The price for a carvery meal is excellent and the service is good. However at our last visit we were shown to a table where there was lots of food on the floor, undoubtedly left by children. Also on the table next to us a toddler was eating food not from a plate but direct from the table which was slightly riotous and pretty non-appetising!”
“Fabulous food! (reading, berkshire) shame the waitress was rushed off her feet!! food always above standard but in my experience the only thing letting this restaurant down is the lack of staff on the floor, always a big que to get the food then you encounter a waitress whom you almost too afraid to ask anything off, on my last experience the stress off this situation was clearly apparent and actually spoilt the experience of eating out, a shame as the food is sooo good!”
“Went for breakfast st 9.30. Rude woman behind the bar as we paid.
Bacon dry and like leather, the same with the sausages. No.potato dish left and was bluntly told there wasn't any more coming out! Eggs shrivelled. The moby dick carvery is excellent but Romford awful”
“Two friends and I had a meal at the restaurant in Northfleet, service was very slow, waited nearly 20 mins to be seated, then told when we could get our meal, food was excellent, but to be charged £21.50 a bottle which I can buy for £10 a bottle at Sainsbury's plus £4.50 for a bottle of Doombar again can buy for £1.50, won't be going back again.”
“I attended the Toby carvery Trowbridge with my family Sunday booked by my son, Harley. Whilst i applaud the service the food wasn't up to par. I paid for the adults to have an upgraded meal which in essence was just a larger plate and a sausage. I had ordered the beef, sadly and i got two of the thinest slices of meat that if held up to the light you could see through it, except for the fat, which was what made up at least half of it. I will never eat there or at any Toby after that experience, i do not mind paying good money if the food matches the expectations, sadly in this case they left wanting.”
“My recent visit to Toby Carvery Romford, a place I frequented often, left me deeply disenchanted. This establishment, once known for its accommodating service, has taken a disappointing turn. One significant change that struck me was the abrupt discontinuation of allowing customers to take leftovers home. This policy not only diminishes the value for money but also demonstrates a concerning disregard for environmental implications. By preventing customers from taking leftovers, the restaurant contributes to food waste, unnecessarily increasing the carbon footprint—a decision that seems both irresponsible and out of step with contemporary environmental consciousness.
Adding to this disappointment was our experience with the reservation system. Despite the restaurant appearing only half-full, we were unceremoniously denied entry due to alleged overbooking. This claim seemed unfounded, especially when we managed to secure a table instantly online, highlighting a clear discrepancy in their booking process. The staff’s handling of the situation was not just inconvenient but also came across as dismissive and unwelcoming.
These recent experiences—both the disregard for environmental impacts and the decline in customer service—paint a concerning picture of Toby Carvery Romford’s current operational ethos. Their lack of consideration for customer convenience and environmental sustainability marks a significant departure from the quality service I had come to appreciate in my previous visits.
Regrettably, I find myself unable to recommend Toby Carvery Romford under these circumstances. This shift in policies and the overall decline in hospitality and environmental responsibility have significantly marred the establishment’s appeal.”
“Had the worst roast ever 30th August at the Thanet Toby near Manston the roast potatoes
We're dry and rock hard the meat and vegetables were okay, it used to be very good there something has gone wrong will not be going there again.”
“Just ate at a Toby carvery in Coventry and had the worst meal I have ever paid for. Meat was passable though very little of it. Potatoes rock hard and cold. Veg cold and mushy. But the icing on the cake was gravy that tasted like it had, had half a pound of salt added to it. Never again. Even the worst school meals I ate as a child were better than this”
“TOBY CARVERY NEWTON ABBOT
I MY son his wife we when into toby carvery Monday 27/8/ 2022 the meat was disgusting the pork i had 4 little bit it was over cooked so dry like 4 pieces of string tasteless. my sons beef two little slices dry up as it was end of the joint his wife had the very end of that beef joint she just had fatty GRISTLE the man serving was grumpy the rest of the staff was nice not going there again Robert Deacon”
“christmas meal sponsored by scrouge (cram em in never mind covid).
Went to toby restraunt in thanet. Got a table so small there was no room for decorations especially not a xmas cracker. We were put at a table next to a hole in the wall right next to another table with no screen inbetween (much closer than the 1m required by covid regs). We joined the queue for the carvery where we were some of the few people wearing a mask. At the counter there were no paper napkins available and no maccaroni cheese (due to the lack of cheese sauce) but the mushy califlower cheese was still available. Apparently the green mushy balls were brussel sprouts but you could not tell from the teste. Needless to say we were disappointed with the meal. It seams to me that in order to cram in as many people as possible a lot of corners have been cut. This is disappointing as previously this had been a good toby to eat at.”
“Shocking it’s been 12 days and still no refund after I was told 10 days. No respect to replying to emails and staff very rude slamming the phone down when I asked once for the refund the first time round it’s now been 3 times I’ve asked for a refund and no refund. Was out with family and a child present the staff made my family feel very uncomfortable and as we didn’t want to be there asked for a refund. Very unprofessional pub appalling.”
“Chewy, fatty roast beef and cold Yorkshire puddings and shriveled up roast potatoes. Cold veg. My wife and Mum went down with stomach upset and sickness. Save your money and Cook at home.”
