“Booked a Saturday morning for my friend and I as we have both had a difficult few months and needed some TLC.
Normally we love coming here, but we were very disappointed on this visit. Both the spa and the changing rooms needed a good clean, a member of staff had left a dirty sponge on the side by the hairdryers. My friend and I went into the steam room which normally has a lovely smell of essential oil but on this occasion it smelled fusty and sweaty, and this was so unpleasant that we couldn't stay in there. We told a member of staff who didn't seem very bothered.
Staff were also mopping up whilst people were using the facilities, which really ruined the calm and relaxing ambience.
Unfortunately I will not be returning for a while following this experience and will definitely be looking for another spa to use instead. I am also displeased that the price has gone up, but the session time has been shortened. Combined with the poor quality of facilities today, it definitely isn't worth it at the moment.”
Hi Emma, thank you for taking the time to write this, and we’re sorry your visit wasn’t the relaxing break you both needed. The cleanliness, the steam room and the mopping during your session aren’t what we expect, and we’ve raised each point with the team. We’d love the chance to welcome you back, so please get in touch at info@turkishbaths1877.com.
“I wouldn't come again, the changing rooms were dirty they could be cleaned more regularly and I really didn't like the smell but I do appreciate it's an old building. My facial was nice though.”
Hi Clare, we’re sorry the changing rooms weren’t as clean as they should have been, and you’re right that they need regular checks through the day. We’re glad you enjoyed your facial, and we’d love the chance to change your mind about coming back, so please drop us a line at info@turkishbaths1877.com.
“Was a little disappointed with my visit. I expected to have a nice spa smell when I entered the reception but it smelled a little fusty. The spa facilities and changing room were okay but the cafe was a let down. I had to go to find a member of staff to come and see us. We wanted a cocktail but were told that none of the staff new how to make cocktails so they weren't serving them that day. We then chose a prosecco but all the bottles were flat so had to settle for a glass of wine instead. You can't take the drinks to the relaxation room. They have to be consumed in the cafe where there is no spa atmosphere, not even any background spa music to listen to. A very dull experience. We won't be returning.”
“The Baths experience is wonderful and I love that theres a ladies-only option. When I first came, it felt like Id been in another world full of serenity. Id recommended them to all my friends and even brought others along. However, over the past few times, Ive felt quite annoyed. Ladies are talking at full volume, so loud you can hear them from outside the rooms. What makes it worse is that when staff come in to clean the floor water, they dont care about noise levels and even start having full volume conversations with others. At times Ive had to ask others to lower the volume myself. On my last trip, I just decided to leave earlier instead. The ice machine doesnt work or atleast it hasnt been on my last few trips, its just the same ice everyones putting their hands into. There is so much black mould everywhere- grout, tiles, corners of slabs. The steam rooms are just full of it and I do feel like the mould spores must spread within the steam thats being inhaled whilst in there. It really needs a deep clean from the ceiling to the floor on a far more regular basis.”
Thank you for your review, and for recommending us to your friends. We're so pleased you enjoy the ladies-only sessions.
We ask all guests to respect the quiet signs, and our team steps in whenever they hear noise. Guests tend to go quiet when staff are around, so it really helps when people let us know at the time, as you did. We've also reminded our team to keep their own voices down while they're working in the baths. If you'd like a quieter visit, weekdays are usually much calmer than busy weekends.
We moved the ice machine because it couldn't make enough ice in the heat. We now bring fresh crushed ice up from a machine in our plant room throughout the day to keep it topped up.
The dark marks you saw aren't mould. The baths are 150 years old and still have their original glazed bricks and tiles, and what you saw is the age of those tiles and the grout. We deep clean regularly on the days we're closed, using methods gentle enough to protect the original tiles.
We'd love to welcome you back for a weekday session.
Kind regards,
Hazel
