“I was made redundant shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.
Unite informed me the treatment I received was illegal and would represent me but despite arranging 3 hearings, they told me my Union rep was on holiday at the last moment and told me to reschedule.
Due to the stress of constant cancelled representation and my chemotherapy, I was forced to give up my case.
I got far more help from free services like UCAS and Citizens advice and the £15 a month that I paid Unite for many years was a complete waste.”
“I wish I had read the reviews prior to joining.
It’s not clear on the website but they will not help you if you have an issue within 4 weeks -
So if your googling who will help you in your time of need - avoid!
£22 For nothing - a withheld number called me -
Quoted terms and conditions and the call was ended!
In my experience, extra stress was added to a situation where I turned to them for help.”
“Union in cahoots imwith companies... they dont fight for members interests only their own... the staff on relevant positions there should be replaced and any position should be like american presidencies... 2 terms and another 1 comes along... fight the corruption within”
“Don't ever expect any kind of redress using Unite the Union even if you've got a decade + worth of membership under your belt. They don't care, they won't fight your corner, they are paid off staffers once they get in touch with your employer or HR department. One of the tricks of the game they employ with your employer against you is the union man won't attend your grievance meeting if your company is based outside of your home postcode, and your employer won't delay your meeting regards if you don't have the representation you've paid for. 14 years ago when Unite brought out the older Union "Amicus" they were still a better outfit who had morals and respect for their members, but now you can forget it. Corruption is rife. Do yourself a big favour and cancel your membership today and save yourself £180 per year. UKAS is also useless but they are free when you have employment issues.”
“Just awful. Been through a hellish experience with my employer and trying to get support from Unite is like pulling teeth. All very clinical and don't seem to care. Feeling really isolated already and thought I was paying for support. Shameful.”
“Worse union ever. I am membership for 1 year now and I am having issues at work. I keep calling them abs they never come back to me. The first time I spoken to the lady in charge for my case she was defending the company. They get money from the companies and they don’t support the staff.
I have called ACAS which is free service are way better than Unite the Union
I Do not recommend Unite the Union to anyone”
“Dreadful Union. They support the company against you even on small matters. Total liars. Never trust them or join. As the others are saying on here, simply avoid at all costs. Very rarely do they help anyone. Only a friend who has links with them.”
“Was told a 14.5 hrs journey could be done in 9.5 hrs when I refused telling them it could not be the unite union just stood by and watched me be slaughtered ultimately loosing my job of over 12 years just like that . Avoid this union at all cost as they really work for the company and not the people who pay for membership . Do Not trust ! You will loose your job and possibly a lot more.”
“Worse than useless, I complained for over a year about management in my Co. Lying, bulling, threats, and cover ups in Ethics investigations with no help at all from Derby office. I was eventually forced to leave but as they didnt advise me, i missed out on Constructive dissmissal, i tried to pursue my complaints after leaving but Unite then refused to help as "i was no longer with the employer!!' They sad they "EMPLOY THEIR OWN SOLICITORS" thats a lie, when they eventually put me in touch, the solicitors are a private Co. WHO PAY UNITE A FEE!!! IF, they decide to take the case!!!! Waste of 6yrs membership fees”
