I first heard about the Swytch start-up in 2017 and finally decided to take the risk on Indigogo in January 2018, then just over a year later my “50 mile” kit arrived. I have to confess that several missed promised delivery dates gave me some doubts. But the wait was worthwhile, this is brilliant. I fitted the kit to my steel-framed touring bike (Edward Warner, Reynolds 531 frame for those who love details). I had bought this bike second hand in the early 80s, when I was a student in London, but had not been using it much recently. Fitting the Swytch kit did need a little bit of work, but not much. The Swytch 700C wheel is a tiny bit smaller than the ‘vintage’ 27 ¼ it replaced, fortunately the brakes had enough adjustment to allow for this, and a new tyre and tube was needed. The quick release forks had to be filed to get the wheel to fit, I had to swap the torque washer on the lead side, and put a spacer in for the pedal sensor, all very easy once I had decided it was possible. It all fits and works. I was very pleased with my first test ride, despite the cold wind. No need to get off and push up hills. I was a bit disappointed at how slow 15mph is when the assistance cuts out (but I have since found that this is easy to override). I had drop handlebars and the extra weight of the battery pack made it feel a bit top-heavy and unstable. I put flat bars on and this cured things (or I got used to it). First longer ride was 14 miles each way, a 407 ft rise and 719 ft drop (and of course the other way round on the way back) there was still juice left but the meter suggested not much. I have not tried a longer run, I’m sure I’d get further on flatter land. The bike has been great, I use it to get into the nearby town and out into the local countryside for the sheer pleasure. The kit only let me down once, at the bottom of a long hill when it switched off and wouldn’t go back on. I did have the Hall by-pass lead with me, but had forgotten that this was what could happen. After I fitted the lead it works perfectly again, although I wonder if it is as smooth and if the range might be cut. I would suggest fitting it in the first place, as I'm not holding my breath for the firmware update. Anyway I now have a superb ebike that has transformed my well-loved old bike, and it has cost a great deal less than buying new (and I probably would never have done that). I live about 2 miles from a town, and I use the bike now instead of being lazy and driving. The long hill on the way back is now easily conquered. I am very pleased with it and highly recommend the Swytch kit, especially if you want to keep a bike you have. Well done Swytch!

Service and support from Swytch Bike are second to none. Other service and product providers could learn a lot from the attention given to ensuring satisfactory functioning of the kit.

I ordered two 50 mile kits for my bromptons, a 2014 and a 2006 models. The older brompton needed extra care when fitting, otherwise it was just a matter of following the instructions. And not forgetting the wonderful community at the Swytch Support Forum where one can find a lots of helpful suggestions and tips. Our swytch bromptons make us go out and explore wonderful places!!!

I ordered my Swytch kit as one of the original Indiegogo backers and it was fascinating to watch the company overcome some of the hurdles to get the project - about which they were obviously passionate - off the ground. It was worth the wait!

good except for the delivery time. following the instruction, kit installation is easy in a old bike too. a suggestion for the battery charger: a simple electronic card for ampere absorption measurement and regulation will be wery usefull for overnight charging.

The kits arrived, on time to our French address. They were very easy to fit to our vintage Marin San Rafael bikes. Just a small adjustment was made to the pedal sensor, and attached using sugary glue. Then the test...they performed brilliantly in the Millevache region of France, with steep climbs. We are so pleased with the kits. They are absolutely brilliant. When the power kicks in, it feels as if someone is pushing you from behind. We would recommend without hesitation the conversion!

It works We wanted a kit that was simple to install and did not add too much permanent weight to the bike, to make it easier to transport it in the car, and we did not want to spend a ton of money. We installed it in a hybrid Btwin 900 from decathlon very easily, without having to file the forks. The only issue was the hydraulic brake sensor, which we had to attach to the front of the brakes where there wasn´t a nicely flat surface. We solved that with some glue and sugru, and it took some adjustment to get it in the right position (basically the magnet has to touch the sensor when not braking). After that the kit worked really well. We have the 50 mile battery and we can get at least 60 km on hilly terrain and middle assistance. My wife can keep up on long excursions or go shopping on our hilly town without too much effort. The settings are very customizable and the thumb throttle is really convenient when starting from a ramp. We have also been out in heavy rain with no issue, as well as in forest roads. In our 31.8 handlebar the arms of the bracket don´t touch when closed. We tightened it too much and it broke. Swytch sent us a new one for free. Also we had a very long upright stem and the weight of the battery made the bike twitchy, but we changed that to a horizontal 70 mm stem and it is much nicer. When we decided to change the bottom bracket from square tapered to SRAM GXP we had to file the PAS sensor. I got it wrong the first time and they sent us a new one for free. I am very happy with the customer service.

My wife and I are over 70 and both ride Bromptons so we bought two kits. Swytch seem to be the only supplier for Brompton kits that doesn't require irreversible engineering. This means the kits can be removed and the bikes sold as original should you want to do that. Their pricing makes it a worthwhile upgrade. I’ve had no significant issues fitting the kits and the usability of the bikes with them fitted is very good, although we have yet to do any significant mileage. Folding is unaffected which was significant for us as we wanted to have bikes where we can get both of them into the car boot (mid sized family car). Some care is required in routing the existing front brake cable and gear cable around the battery, also fitting of the pedal sensor can be a little fiddly but once you work that out the rest is straight forward. We've just recently had a holiday in France where we used both bikes effortlessly. Overall I’ve been very pleased with the installation and find riding the bikes quite easy. A couple of minor niggles... The power setup options are many and varied and if I was truthful could do with some simplification but that’s a minor thing. The battery can be difficult to remove from the handlebar attachment and if not carefully positioned can foul against the T-bag which is quite large. Overall very happy however.

Excellent alternative for the people who already have a Brompton or want to buy a second hand one and can't afford to buy the new e-Brompton. The best part ? You can switch back to a classic Brompton at anytime.

Love, love, love it! At 75, I can go farther and feel better at the end of the ride thanks to the assist of my Swytch. Here is my lady's 7 speed cruiser on the Eastern Trail overpass over the Maine Turnpike near Kennebunk, Maine. What a beauty!

Very pleased with my Swytch kit. I have the hi-power option but keep it restricted to 25km/h limit on the road. Good points: its powerful, reasonably quiet (although I'm hard of hearing so not best judge of that), easy to fit, very reasonably priced and very cheap entry into the e-bike revolution. Good quality for the money. Range is good but more like 30 miles than 50 miles on a full charge, but I imagine that's down to being the hi-power kit. On the standard one, I expect the range would be closer to 50 miles. Bad points: 50 mile Battery and hub motor (bigger than standard) are quite heavy, and battery does impact on the steering, so would be interested in forthcoming new smaller, Eco battery. Motor makes an occasional grinding noise that I hope is not an indication of a pending fault or breakdown but hasn't gotten any worse since it started.

Very happy with my Swytch. Rode nearly 500 mile on it now with no problems. Also when I don't need it I simply put my old wheel back on and it's a normal bike again. The fitting was relatively straight forward. With the cost of decent ebike around £1700, Swytch conversion kits are definitely worth the looking at.

I bought the Brompton 25 mile Version Pros -Great Value -Fits 2010 Brompton -Moderate experience required to install. -Configurable to set my desired acceleration -No speed limit power drop off aka the cliff. -It can maintain 16 mph. -Good customer support if you can visit their HQ in Hackney -10 miles on full motor assistance Cons -Cannot link Acceleration to Cadence -Requires conductive grease to maintain stable battery to motor connection -Does not come with a torque arm. -Pedal sensor requires a harder rubber support to stay put. -Battery requires wiggling to pull out of the hub -Battery does not charge iPhones

Swytch kit was very easy to fit to our Dawes tandem. Works very well and helps massively on the hills especially when my stoker is taking a breather. My second 50mile kit is fitted to an old mountain bike and is now serving as my commuter bike for a daily 20 miles round trip on bridleways and backroads. Knocked 25% off my commute time and no need for a shower when I get to work. Great product and great after sales support based on my own experience.

I ordered 2 of the 50 mile kits in March 2018. The reason that I bought two was that I realised that the 250 WHr batteries claimed to give 50 miles would likely give me about half of this range in the hills of North Yorkshire. I realised after a few weeks that they might be delayed so I bought a Kalkhoff 600 WHr e-bike with hub gears and a belt drive costing £2600. This bike was good but had clicks almost right from the start. In the end I had to have the motor replaced. The Eco mode of the bike showed 118 miles but in the hills of North Yorkshire it was getting just less than half of this. In February 2019 my two kits arrived at last. I fitted them to my two bikes. There was one fault with a battery unit which was fixed fast by the Swytch team. I fitted one kit on my Koga bike with 14 hub gears (same bike as Mark Beaumont cycled round the world on), and one kit on an old Genesys bike. When I go out I take the spare battery in a pannier and switch when the other battery is getting low - about 25 to 30 miles on the hills. This shows that the Kalkhoff bike and the Switch bikes get about the same fall-off in range. The Kalkhoff bike gives a smoother increase in speed but I actually enjoy the Switch bikes a bit more as I feel more of a kick and the bikes are lighter. I have increased the maximum speed from 15.5mph to 17.5mph (illegal) and it is now even more fun. I like to cycle at the maximum mode (5 out of 5) which makes it really responsive. I have cycled in total about 1100 miles using the Swytch kits. Some of the rides around here have very steep hills and I then take the Kalkhoff bike as it has more torque, but the Swytch would also get up the hills but not just as fast. I am very pleased with the Swytch kits so the wait was worthwhile.
